Most likely your problem. The EBPV goes closed during start up and will cause more exhaust to come out of the leaking up pipe.

Check your lower door seals. They aren't so good sometimes.

Are your up-pipes leaking at the turbo?

Leaky up-pipes can definately cause an exhaust smell in the cab. Since the intake for the climate control system is in the wiper cowl, it's pretty easy for an exhaust leak in the engine bay to find it's way into the cab.

I agree with the up-pipes causing the odor. I am having the same problem, going to go with the International up-pipes versus the Ford ones.

My pass. side up pipe is leaking and I have exhaust smell in the cab whenever the truck is stopped. I can see soot around the upper squash coupling. New donuts and a lot of elbow grease is in the works for this spring.
