I have a 75 crew cab long bed which I bought completely disassembled without brake lines. Is there a source for the set? I have come to terms with getting a super cab set and just making my long runs down the frame rails. However I'm secretly hoping there's a crew cab set for sale out there.....

I am new to the thread and am hoping to get a little help. I started what seamed like a normal rebuild on my 1979 ford F250 Crew cab 4x4 short bed. Like most projects it has morphed to this:
1. 24 valve Cummins conversion
2 5 speed Dodge Transmission and Transfer case
3. 2014 F450 axels Yes Dually
4. Front 4 link conversion
5. F450 steering upgrade
6. 42-inch Rubber
7. 8" lift to clear said rubber

I am looking for anyone who has tried any of the above changes to see if they have any advice or can point out any concerns they had.

 

So on the above modifications what has actually been done or are all of those already done and what are you considering doing 1st and so on and so on if some have been accomplished . a little more information would probably help the group out. O and pictures for sure. Are you doing the work or ?Sounds sweet.

 

I have completely disassembled the truck Sandblasted the frame and body, and have the axles ready to go in. I have 8" Lift springs being made to replace the rear blocks. It looks like I may be able to build a very strong cross member that would include the transmission support and the mount for the 4 link arms. Not sure if that is a good idea in case I need to service the transmission? Not sure if I can mount an F-450 steering box on the 79 frame and replicate the factory setup? With the weight of the Cummins and the 4 link, I am very afraid of the frame bending. I plan on boxing the frame adding support for the Steering box and Panhard bar. As well as completing the cross member alterations and support for the Cummins. Am I missing anything?

Springs will be removed King coil over shocks will be installed need Mounts for 4 link and Panhard bar and a way to adapt the F-250 steering to F-450.

Rear axle in place. custom springs are being built to replace blocks

 

Imho I wouldnt mount the motor trans on a single or even the m/t and suspension on it. Make it easy to work on.if you have not dont a 4 link before, there are greaT tutorials online plus calculators that are free. As far as the frame was it a 250/350 to start with?

 

No crew cab set exists out there but it's not too hard to fill the gap with the super cab route or simply custom bending/building your own. I ended up custom building my own.

 

I have the brake lines from my Crew cab and am planning to run all braided lines if you want the old ones?

 

Just me but why would you not just make your own. Good to learn how to do it and if you want to modify anything you can at the same time. Myself a do SS hardline fir SK long stationary locations and only use SS braided for the caliper hoses and the drop from the prop valve.

 

Good point, I was thinking I will need to box the entire frame due to the extra stress. Was thinking of running thin-wall pipe as conduit before I enclose the frame on both sides. My goal is to make it easy to run wiring if i ever add any accessories and was thinking the flexible hose would allow me to fish it trough. That said I could also run the brake line in the frame prior to boxing it in and just leave service openings where the joints are in case i ever had a leak?
