460 Heads

I have a nearly complete 460 I am going to drop into my truck probily this winter. Unless a miracle happens, and my neighbor buys my 352FE.

It has Dove-C heads that are cleaned up a bit, but I need new valves for them. Plus maybe new hardend seats. I have everything else to re-build them from a Comp Cams K-Kit.

I saw on Summit that Edelbrock has bare heads with the 75cc chamber for about $1200 a pair. To which I will add my K-kit, and some high swirl valves.

This motor is not a race motor, but what I call a perfect +1 big block. Just a modern cam, really detailed re-build.

Would you go with Edel heads, and use your parts?

Or go with Dove-C heads, and finish the work?

This will be in my 66 F100 with a C6 "wide ratio at re-build time", 2.70 geared, CV suspension. It will also get all the bolt-ons as I put it togather, and what tweaks it need to fit in my lowered chassis.

Also how much does a BB 460 weigh with aluminum intake and heads?

me personally i would go with the Edelbrock heads if you can afford them. way better ports then the factory stuff and save a ton of weight over the cast iron heads.

the 460 is a heavy motor. somewhere around 750lbs in stock configuration. probably around 650 - 675 with aluminum heads and intake would be my guess.

Do you think there a bit much for a stock motor lets say. Money not a concern.

Or are they some what like a good manifold and headers free horsepower?

I know a sbc's something like AFR 185's can be considered free horse power becouse of the the design. So I wonder does this hold true for Fords 460 since it is already a canted valve head.

Don't buy the Ebrocks bare unless you are really prepared to do some work on them. They are not a plug in the valves and play type of deal.
If you are looking at Ebrocks, also consider the TFS Streets, and FRPP SCJ as well.
Intake i'd consider Torker2, Victor, or one of the 2 TFS intakes.

edit. if its stock bottom end maybe a performer 460 or rpm.
