Funny I see this thread today. I just got back from having factory exhaust put back on my truck. Changing to dual exhaust and trying to acheive exactly what you are asking for (rumble with no drone) turned out to be a very bad decision for me. Now about $600 worse off, I am back to stock where I should have stayed!!!!!!
I saw no performance gain and no MPG gain. I actually think my truck felt as if gained some power back today once it was returned to stock. All I got for $600 and two different mufflers was noise, one with a very heavy drone in the cab that lasted about 3 days and then a toned down version that was not much better and got taken off today.
Moral to the story.......Be real sure that you want to do this and then be absolutely certain on the dual exhaust you pick. They all make (drone) noise! Some just less than others, and for some that is what they like. For me at age 45, well I've decided I hate it.
Proceed with Caution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the stock muffler is shot i bottomed out on it and put a hole in it what about mbrp? i want great sound and can comprimise with a little in cab noice when i step on the gas
What mufflers did you use and take off 'cause I'm after the same idea - rumble but not a lot of noise in the cab. At 55 I'm having mid-life crisis!
The one that was awful was a FlowMaster 40 Series. For my taste it was terrible with in cab drone. Like I said I took it back to muffler shop within days and they sold me an off brand called IMCO. It was a huge improvement but I was just never happy with it either. I am now back to stock and loving it. If I were ever going to do dual exhaust again. I would bite the bullet and go with either the high dollar Borla or Magnaflow. Their sound clips sound nice but I guarantee there is still some drone in the cab. Some peoples ears are just more sensitive to the drone than others which I think comes with age. :-) For my taste, I think i will be sticking with stock.
