'90 460, getting a little tired
The FI 460 in my '90 F-250HD 4x, has 148,000 miles on it. Besides some of the normal parts replacements (alternator, battery, distributor cap/plugs/wires, oil, filters, etc) I was wondering what type of preventative maintenance I should do to the "inside" to keep it running as well as it has been. I'm pretty good with suspension and external driveline stuff, but the internal combustion engine has me baffled!
I wonder about things like timing chain replacement, valve jobs etc... Any help to keep this beauty of a truck running healthy would be appreciated!

You could go ahead an replace the Timing Chain.
With the mileage stated the chain has stretched.
Unless you are getting alot of smoke on start-up
and gear changing(trans.), you can leave the heads alone.
Also regular oil changes and tune ups will keep the 460
purring.
By the way, I have a late model 460 in my 78' F-150,
but I'm not sure of the correct oil capacity, because I am
using a front cover dip stick which gives a false full reading.
So how much oil does your 460 calls for?.

If your interested there are choices, I did valves, porting and rocker arms, but at 100000+ a new oil pump probably won't hurt bearings could benefit from some attention especially in a cold weather climate. Im in the process of changing to mass air on my 460 which will make any modifying to my 97 engine alot more easy. Headers and air filter help to and not one of those box air filters a real K&N open charger filter. all she takes is $$$ how far do you want to go with the old girl?
Ive posted on a couple pages about the interactive MAF system and ill post again when its done letting everyone know how she goes. if your interested write me and i forward the information.
Best of Luck
