Whats the deal with Mini-Spools?
Well, my quest in finding a 87+ truck continues. I found the 93 with a mini-spool in the rear-end. The guy said the tires will chirp turning in parkings lots and such. My question, will this significantly increase tire wear in a daily driven truck? Even when rolling around curves will it still grind the tires?
Also it has a roller motor out of a 89 Mustang (5.0 HO). It has been rebuilt. I know the cam in the HO motors are slightly better, but has the perfromance really increased compared to the 93 F150 motors?

well Mini spools are a cheap quick way to give a person full positive tracktion. If its a mini spool its not as strong as a full spool. Personaly I feel that limited slip is better because it does allow one tire to turn slightly slower or faster. spools are great for drag cars but on the street they are a little to agressive. They make it very hard to drive in rain or slick conditions because if one tire hits a slick spot The vehicle is much more likely to have the back pass the front or to quickly vear one direction or the other.

The Reason people use them is because they are cheap and easy to install. They just take the place of the spider gears and conect the two axle shafts together so that they turn the same speed no matter what. They make it a pain to try and push the vehicle on pavement with the wheels turned because your having to scuff one tire. As one person already said they are like welding the gears together. Basicly its better than a lincoln locker but no way near as roadworthy as a good locker or limited slip.
