Big truck 5 lug to 6 lug conversion
#16
hi folks, petey shoes here: I drive a 42 MH sno-go year round, 18 years now. have rebuilt most all parts, made radius cornered steel bed, 59ab etc. I pretty much know these trucks! use 20" split rings with 7.50 20 goodyears with good results. I know of a fellow that makes adapters for ANY wheel, 5 to 6, 5 to 10 whatever you need. expensive!!! alcoa is trying to get an order of 10000 sets in order to remake old style aluminum wheels. lets hope so.

hi don, I have info you need at my shop,(drive heavy end dump),will get info to you in a couple days. I do know that he is in tx. and cost is approx 200. per wheel for 5-lug to 10-lug conversion. adapter is a simple project if mechanically inclined. biggest expence is lugs and nuts. you gotta have NUTS!!! plate offsets wheel approximately 1/2 inch. you need to watch tire diameter, width, gear differentials, fender scrub, turn radiaus etc.

Stu and I have been on a campain for quite some time to warn of the dangers of Widow Makers and trying to find alternatives for them. We usually post on the '48-60 board.

the widow maker was a two piece wheel that is joined about center of the width of the wheel
the two and three piece lockring wheels were fairly safe as long as the componants were in good shape and the person mounting them knew what he was doing

I honestly think, Case1950, that you're where I was at a few years ago. Having to learn about and do the detective work to find these old rims. In a sense you guys that use 20" rims have some advantage because so many more manufacturers used your 20s than used my 17s.
Hey Truckdog - If you need 17's or know of someone that does I had a guy contact me that said he had two - I think he wanted $100 ea. I assume they go on the F-3 ?
I do have 6 of the 22.5's still (one piece) Pic's are available at this link.

The 17s I'm looking for are Budds with part #59340. That number will be on the back/concave side along the edge of the rim. Generally opposite the valve stem hole. If that's what your friend has, we can talk. If he has other numbers, please come back and let me know what they are. I've mentioned your 22.5s a few times. Somebody needs to buy them. Thanks. Stu

phyrphighter, whats the deal on 22.5"s ? are they structurally and cosmetically sound? I'm ****, looking for GOOD set of four for 42awd. have very good set of 20" lock rings ready for tires but would consider these if they are clean. how wide are rims? do they track straight, (not bent), are lugs 4-3/4 center to center, center hole 6" wide? looked at pictures, need more info. pete
