Ok Im an idiot! the part that is broken is this orange and grey plastic thing with a bunch of star drives and a 10 mm nut holding it on, its actually cracked in half. I just have no idea what it is, but im pretty sure being broken in half isnt good. Someone know?

If you look in this picture you can see it.

The part that is orange is your solenoid pack which is what controls your shifts. It is pretty easy to change if that is your problem. Also usally when the od light is flashing it is the solenoid pack which if i remember it was about 185 dollars at the dealer. Hope this helps.

Yup, after doing some research I found out that it is the shift solenoid, I got my old one pulled out, its cracked in half. So Im sure thats what threw all the codes. Tomarrow I'll get one, or order one. My fluid smelled kinda burned but hopefully it will live for a while. It also had some sludge build up on the magnet, not sure how normal that is.

Well for anyone interested the truck is back up runnin and shifting correctly, I changed out the solenoid pack, (225 dollars worth), also found a blown fuse for the transmission and had to change that. Now time for a trans temp gauge, 6.0 transmission cooler, bigger pan, and BTS valve body! Thanks for the help to those who chimed in!

I still have no idea! I think maybe a tree branch or something like that got kicked up. It will remain a mystery.

Also I might mention, while doing research on these solenoid packs, I found that on the 99-01 years these were somewhat prone to causing the transmission to stick in 2nd gear, and Ive read where some of you guys have this problem. So you might look into that if you havnt already. There not very hard to change.

hello, i have an 02 that has a rebilt tranny with less than 500 miles on it. The overdrive light started flashing on me this afternoon. While the light was flashing the 1-2 shift was hard. It would hold first for a long time. I was pulling my trailer lite at the time. This went on for about 4 miles. Then I loaded the trailer and shut the truck of to try to reset it. It worked, the light stoped flashing and it shifted fine the rest of the way home. Any Ideas. I also have a temp gauge and it never went above 150. thanks

You might have your fault codes read by a scanner compatible to our PSD.. (the autozone scanners don't work).. Sometimes the flashing od light is caused by a bad VSS sensor on top of the rear-end.. Mine went bad but it also affected the speedo.. Got a new one from Napa.. P/N 530780, $10.49, been good ever since.
