92 F350 IDI w/ ATS turbo-Bouncy shifting-Stick shift

This is my 1st Diesel and I've got a few questions about the performance. I know that my 92 isn't going to as responsive as a gas engine but it seems like it's got alot of drag when i'm i between gears. i,e when I shift it's all I can do to keep my passengers head from flying foward. 1st gear is pretty much a granny gear, only can go about 10mph then it's time to switch. So I wasally start off in 2nd. Just wonder if it's normal to be that slugish and I should just except it or is there something I can do to get some more throttle responce. I just changed exhaust from stock to 4 in and that helped a bit. she's a big girl . A 4x4 crew cab long bed with a flat bed so she weighs alot too. don't get me wrong she moves it just seems like she could move a little faster off the line. thanks for any feed back, Gunnar

not to be rude but practice makes for easier shifting the more time you spend with it the better it will shift

No, I thought that when I 1st got it but i know my way around a manual Trans and it's something else, But I did consider that too, i'm thinking it might be a clutch issue

The front brake calipers not releasing comepletly is one cause of this also causes terrible mileage and break pad wear.
