Best place to buy ball joints?

Hi, 1996Powerstroke (Dave) is going to be helping me with my ball joints, and i was wondering where will be the cheapest place to buy MOOG? We'll be doing upper and lower.

Not really sure why i would already need ball joints, truck is an 03, with 68K miles. Maybe it's the lift (4in) or 35's not sure?

Thanks Dave

You wouldn't be the first to need ball joints at that mileage. My parent's '03 needed ball joints at about the same mileage, and their truck still runs on the stock suspension. My truck with the lift and tires made it over 100K miles before needing ball joints. Dunno why. Luck I guess.

Anyway, pick them up at http://catalog.powerstrokeshop.com/p...&siteid=214083 Scroll down, it's the third item listed on the page. The entire kit includes all the seals you'll need and the Moogs for $250.

Try your local Ford dealer as well. I just picked up a full set of four for my F 550 and they all had zerks.

We bought a set yesterday, uppers and lowers, however the lowers aren't zerked.
Any idea what gives here, Dan?

Not a clue. I was thinking when I bought my Ford joints that I was just going to have to be resigned to replacing them every 50k because that was all I could get and they didn't come with zerks from the factory.
Only the tie rod ends are zerked on my truck and not the ball joints.

That's the exact opposite of mine. The lowers on mine are the updated Ford ones w/zerks, but the uppers are "sealed for life" short life that is. The clearance is tight between the upper ball joint and the u-joint but there's room for miles on the lower one.

If I had to guess on the zerk vs non zerked ball joints, the non zerked ball joints are the OEM joints. The "motorcraft aftermarket" have the zerks. (you can buy either line at the dealer, and must specify oem if you want them, or they sell you the motocraft aftermarket) If you got some zerked, and some non zerked, its probably because someone was negligent, in putting them in the right place. I must be lucky, because my truck has 169k on it, and its on and off highway miles, and still have tight factory ball joints. (im sure they heard that and started getting loose) Our early 99 got ball joints around 150k. Our 01 got them around 160k, and our other 02 had some trouble early on with bad ones, but finally got replaced sometime after 100k IMO the OEM sealed ones are fine, but if you have to get aftermarkets I would go with spicer or moogs. In that order. In my experience working on our small fleet, most times, the OEM parts are the best sadly enough. Atleast in the "wear items" department. (brakes, steering, suspension) Except the problem areas, (sway bar bushings, spring eye bushings) Thats just my .02

I got 1/2 a set done today and the bottom joint, which I thought was still good had a lot of slop to it.
Tomorrow I'll finish the rest of the job and will have a nice tight front end again.
