Does anyone know about D8VE-A2A heads
These heads are on a 460 but may be off of a 429 truck engine.
They don't have the holes in the end for the crossover tube just a bump where it is suppose to be.
I was told these heads were cast before 1978 but doesn't the D8 mean they were cast in 1978 or later?
What cc is the combustion chamber and what is the valve sizes?
I looked these heads over and I'm sure they are D8VE-A2A and not D3VE-A2A.
Thanks for any info you folks can send my way.

f-250 mike, I will try to help you here. The D does signify it was a head from the 70's. The second number is the year of that decade. Which would be 78. The V designation is given to 429/460 as they were originally designed for Lincoln's. The E means engine part.
The head cc's should be 96.2.
The valve size is 2.084 intake, 1.653 exhaust.
I got this info out of I book I bought recently. Hope it helps.

Does anyone know about D8VE-A2A heads
he does know what he is talking about... they did cast a D8VE head. i've seen them myself and scratched my head and did more scraping thinking they were '73 castings.. seen them in the big lincoln's.. if i'm not mistakin this casting carried the heads over into the early "80's.. i've never seen a casting number for a 460 head that was a E0, OR E1. know what i mean, has anyone else??. they did put the 460 into the 80, 81's ford heavy duties didn't they? getting into the "80's is getting somewhat out of my league so if i'm wrong someone please correct me.i don't mess much with the newer stuff older is better. but like i say i have seen this casting number in the '78 and '79 lincoln's alot. c.j.

I have also seen the D8 castings.. they were made. If Im not mistaken, they were cast in late 78, put into production in 79, and did carry through approx 84 (this was the second major head retooling ford did with their 385-series)... I could very well be mistaken, and please someone correct me if wrong, but these are the #'s that come to mind..

He's not seeing things
I currently have a 429 tore apart in my garage and it has D8VE-A2Aheads on it. The block and crank are early 70's and im trying to figure out if someone robbed the heads off it and switched them with something else. I to have been trying to find stuff on the D8VE-A2A heads and cannot find anything.

D8VE A2A HEADS
I was told that these are really d3ve a2a heads and the 8 is a casting error. the D3ve a2a according to the book I looked it up in said that it was a police interceptor head, so does anyone know if that is true? I have a set of these heads and was told the engine came out of a 78 5 ton truck (460).

and for the record, I have actually seen a set of "D8VE" heads that had an actual casting date of 1974. If you know anything about Fords numbering system you would know that is not possible thus they had to be D3VE heads.
The only way to find out the actual year is to check the date casting code.
Sorry

depends on what your building.
They flow as good as any of the other "passenger car" heads like the D0VE with bigger combustion chambers. I actually prefer them to the early heads as it's a LOT easier to get pistons to keep it within pump gas range. And you do it without a huge dish that actually hurts power that is needed for the early heads.
for a mild to medium build that work fine and I would use them personally. just like any other factory head, they would benefit from some massaging even on a mild build (neccesary on any type of real performance build, even using PI or CJ heads)

well thanks for the info. Im running a 460 with a extreme energy comp cam edlebrock performer intake and big holley carb for mud racing. Im currently using a 30 over 86 engine with smog heads but picked up a running 460 with the d8ve heads and was curious if I would gain anything, you know a cheap upgrade on the heads.
