Annoying Beeping.

my 1998 f150 (2wd V6 longbox regular cab) has the standard annoying door ajar beep, and it continues when the door is fully open, and i find myself wanted to shoot myself everytime i clean it, which is very frequently, anyway what i wanted to ask was can somebody tell me where under the dash the beeper is located, cause i cant seem to find the ****ing thing even with the door open, perhaps theres a fuse i can unplug?
thanks

Just use a suitable device to close the door latch when you sit with the door open. You "could" disable the chime, but I learned after leaving the lights on or locking my keys in a few times, just how easy it is to do without that d**n annoying beeper/dinger.
I "think" on the 98 that the chime is part of the GEM or BCM. If you remove the steering column trim and follow the single wire from the ignition lock, there is a connector near the base of the steering column. Unplug it and the "key in" chime won't work.

Ah.... This was the first "mod" I did on my truck. I mostly did it because there was a short or problem somewhere in my ignition switch and the chime would go off sometimes when it wasn't supposed to.

The solution is to find and cut the wire to the chime. It was quite easy to do... and its been very nice since to be without the noise.

I can't seem to find where I got the instructions... but I remember cutting a yellow wire in the steering column. Maybe somone else on here can "chime" in with the solution.

The newer trucks have the chime built in to the GEM module.

You cannot just cut a single wire to disable it.
