Built in 11/71 according to the date printed on the Certification Label.
PIPE DREAM = what this seller interprets the 6 digit DSO to reflect.
DSO = 581600. Seller sez he was told the 1600 figure represents the number produced.
WRONG!
The truck was a DOMESTIC SPECIAL ORDER, and when something is done to the truck to make it special (in this case, prolly the non standard paint color), the DSO number changes from the usual two digits to six digits.
First two digits of the DSO: The Ford district sales zone office where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
Last four digits of the DSO: The Ford special order invoice number for the special equipment added.
DSO 581600: 58 = Twin Cities MN / 1600 = The invoice number for whatever equipment was special.
Special equipment can mean anything from a non standard color, to a Power Take Off, to a special body. When the truck needs repairs to whatever the special equipment that was added, the dealer contacts Ford and gives them the 6 digit DSO. Ford looks up the invoice number and then tells the dealer where to find parts for the added equipment.
This exact same DSO system...used since the late 1940's, is still used today.

Read the comments posted by fellow ebayers (at the bottom of the listing) to see the sellers response on who the "experts' are.
There's also the correct DSO info posted. A fellow ebayer (who would NEVER claim to be an expert), gave him the correct info.
An expert IMO, is someone who skims thru one book, and then claims to know it all.
In this case, the experts are totally clueless....and know about as much about old truck values, as a mule knows about lap dancing!
