What speed does your truck limit at?
My speed limiter shuts down my truck at just over 80 MPH. Why is that so low?
I thought they didn't kick in till 95 or so.
We have turnpikes here in OK that the speed limit is 75 and traffic normally runs about 80 to 85. So from the factory this will not work.
I was just wondering if everyone was in this same boat as me?

Check your tires - normally 3/4 ton and up trucks do not come with speed rated tires, so any sustained speeds of 85 or above is a strick no no from a safety standpoint.
This is one reason why the speed limiters seem lower than it would seem practical.
Normally not enforced, unless it is a commercial use truck, trucks over 10k GVW (not combined) are also limited to the same speed as the commecial large trucks, therfore that is why the F450 and up are set at 80 or so top speed as nowhere in the states is it legal to drive faster than 75, and for example here in Washington state, max speed for any truck over 10k GVW is 60, in Oregon, it is 55 mph!!! Yes, 55, and boy do things go by slowwwllly at that speed!
So, given the speed limits, and the unavailability of high speed rated tires for trucks of the 450 and up size, there is a logical reason why these larger F450 are set so low in top speed. Keeps those stupid ones from klilling those innocent ones when they loose a tire!
Things change when you get above that "magical" or maybe not so magical 10k range. And I imagine that it is something that as time goes on wil have to be addressed as these larger trucks are being used more and more in a non commercial use.

Well I found out my mystery as to why my truck would run any faster.
Ford loaded it with the wrong data from the factory. They reloaded the PCM and TCM.
I had taken it in because the CEL came on, and this is what the report said. I'll have to wait till I can see if it will run over 83 now.
