The parts catalog lists a 7 and a 13 pound cap. If you're unsure of the condition of your heater core and radiator, might want to stick with the 7 pound cap. 13 will give you a higher boiling point, but that won't help you if your solder joints on an old radiator are seeping.

All that said, I run a zero pressure cap with Evan's waterleess coolant.

alright the cap on the truck now is a 7 so ill just stick with a 7... if it aint broke dont fix it right.

whats the difference between the 7 and 13 cap? did the trucks come with either from the factory?

They were probably 12-13 factory. but if it's got a 7, I'd keep it unless doing a bunch of upgrading. 13 gives a slightly higher boiling point, but more stress on an old cooling system. When I first got my truck, before doing anything to it, I put a new cap on, and Like a ding bat I stuck a 13 on it and promptly popped the top seam out of my old tired radiator. I soldered it up and stuck a 7 back on it till I got around to fixing everything up. Now with the custom rad and the Evans coolant, no presure cap needed.

The main difference you will notice running a lower lb cap is the coolant level in the recovery tank will move more between the engine being hot and cold. If you are not running a recovery tank, you will need to run more air space in the top of the radiator with a lower lb cap.
