Just bought a 5" DPF delete pipe

If you are undecided at all... do some more research. I had the edge on my 6.0, and Spartan. Spartan tuning, in my opinion is a much better choice.

I saw your upgrade plans and thought I'd chime in. I have those same mods on my crew cab dually. I went with a 4" delete, afe cold air and Edge Race Evolution. I like the Edge because I had a Juice with Attitude in my 01 7.3 and loved it. Anyway, towing my 13000 5th wheel in stock trim I got 7-8mpg with the mods I get 12-13 calculated. My truck weighs 10300lbs. Highway driving on setting 5, staying at 65mph mostly but under 70 always, I get 21mpg. Using the performance test in the evolution my best 0-60 is 6.7 seconds, flat road on setting 5. I don't normally drive it like that but.. you know, you just have to try.....once, or twice.

Wow you brought this one back from two years ago! Hahaha! The DPF is the worst. Spartan Tuning and DPF/Cat delete has yielded some very significant increases in MPG. I went from avg MPG of 11mpg to about 15mpg. On the highway I have seen results of 20-25mpg. I am not the only one. I am also SRW, 3.73 gears, crew cab, short bed. When I reached 25mpg it was in the summer and I kept the speed and RPM's low. Not only will you have increased MPG, you will have an absolute monster on your hand as far as power! Good luck!
I'm just getting into ford diesel trucks and have also seen a lot of post supporting with the Spartan Tuning and DPF/Cat delete combo. Problem is I'm not sure what all this is (a newbie, sorry) however it appears to be getting around some of the tree hugger stuff Ford had to install. Now we live in a county that has an annual emission testing and if I were to go this route I'm wondering (expecting) that these mods would not pass the visual inspection. Anyone have any knowledge on emission testing centers, especially in TN?

I live in metro Atlanta and we have emissions as well, but not on diesels and not on vehicles with a GVWR over 12k, are you certain they emission inspect diesels in your county? When I got my cars done I asked about the possibility of diesels being inspected any time soon. I was told there were no plans. Certainly if you remove the dfp and cat you'll fail a visual. I wonder if the tuners fool the obd and tell the ecm the truck is within specs., it must. But you'll never pass the visual, in any case.

I got this off the TN web site pertaining to Emissions:
Only gas or diesel-fueled vehicles weighing up to 10,500 pounds, that will be registered in Davidson, Hamilton, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson, and Wilson counties, as well as those registered in Memphis, will have to undergo emissions testing before they can be registered or have their registrations renewed.

Question I have an 08 F450 with the 4.88 rear and I pull a 14,000 lbs 5th wheel. I just drove from South Padre to northern MN. In texas I saw 10 mpg and was down to 8 by the time I got home. I think this might be caused by the colder air as I traveled north. I regen every 50 to 75 miles at 65 mph.. When your pulling a load are you showing smoke out your pipe and is your camper getting dirty from your exhaust?

08 F350 towing a 15000 5er. Regens about every 150-200 miles. Lots of soot on the truck fender, but didn't get the trailer. Yours seems to regen way too often.

I just went 685 miles between regens, with less than 100 of that towing a 3 place enclosed sled trailer w/ 3 sleds. Rest was city/highway driving nice.
To my understanding, when you tow your truck is working hard enough to create high enough EGT's to passively burn off the dpf while you drive. This will increase your distance between active regens considerably. I know a guy who bought brand new 09 Duramax work truck strictly to tow with. He's had it for 3000 miles and claims he hasn't had a regen cycle yet.....
