i'm thinking about getting a chip for my 2000 250, i've done some looking around but can't deside what kind to get. the big question is, when you set your program to the "econo" or mileage setting, do you lose power? also with the chip should i get an exaust temp gauge?
www.dp-tuner.com is the best of the best, I just don't have the best yet... And yes get some gauges with EGT readings and boost. People say you get better fuel millage.... now your set.
As Jeremy said, DP-TUNER is the best chip for our 7.3. Before you get the chip you need to prepare your truck for it. Intake = 6637, exhaust = MBRP 4" SS turbo back, Gauges = ISSPRO from Diesel manor, Then DP-TUNER. That is a great setup.
I have the DP and I'l have to say that the 80E isn't much different from the 100 setting. I've only had it about 2 months and don't drive the truck much in the winter so I can't attest to the mileage but it is better than stock. One of the best gains isn't MPG but SPG (smiles per gallon). I need to try and keep my foot out of it and get an accurate mileage reading.
As far as the EGT gauge question: YES, the tuner will really shoot your temp up to dangerous levels. As it was enplained to me, spend the money for the gauge and not for the new engine when the turbo comes apart!
I have just ran my first tank of fuel with the Dp installed and couldnt' be happier.....besides the power gain I have added another 2mpg in addition to the 2 I added after the 6637 mod. I can't wait to see what it will be after getting out of this winter fuel.
I'm running Swamps single shot injectors (175/146) & T Wildmans (www.totaldieselperformance.com) 4 pos chip. In the daily driver (80+ hp) setting I averaged 17-18 mpg highway (75-80 mph) on two 1500 mile trips to South Dakota, around town 15 mpg.
Definite EGT & boost gauge with and chip/programmer....
