shaker 1000 radio
#2
The Shaker 500 and 1000 started in the 2005 mustangs. They are both rated at 500 max watts for the head unit. The shaker 1000 was hooked to a subwoofer that had an additional 500 watts.
I installed a shaker 500 in my 05 and it was definitely better than the stock stereo but I now upgraded to a Pioneer AVIC-D3 for all the features and the navigation.

I don't know about adding a sub to it, but hooking it up is easy, its just plug and play. On some Shakers you will have to drill 1 or 2 mounting holes to get your stock brackets to fit on, but some already have the holes that line up.
I don't think anyone has figured out the dimmer problem but it only happens on some of the Shakers, so hopefully yours won't have that problem.
You will be happy, it sounds much better than the stock stereo!!!

I am looking at a 2006 superduty lariat with the steering wheel radio controls. It has the audiophile 6 disc setup but I want the navigation system. I am looking at two options the first is finding a stock replacement that I assume will integrate with the steering wheel controls. but I like that pioneer setup. I assume they will not integrate with the steering wheel controls correct? how do the two compare in function. I am not a huge audio aficionado. I just mostly listen to the radio etc. but I am interested in the navigation function. any help?

All you have to do is add an interface adapter to the pioneer and the steering wheel controls will work fine.
I don't know if the factory navigation will work in a pre-2008 Superduty since they never had that option and might not be compatable. So do some research before you buy a factory nav system.
The aftermarket nav systems have alot more features than the factory ones also.
