chipped 6.0 vs. chipped Duracrap

I didn't say stock because i know alot of guys run some type of tune. I have no idea what stock Duramax hp is but I was wondering if a 6.0 was running a good tune and a duramaxc was runnig a good tune, who's gonna win. for year models, let's just say it's an 03-05???

From my experience with both it would be a close run. Shift points and rev limits will be key.

I raced a Duramax with a chip about 7 months ago.. He stayed with me but couldn't get past me.. We managed to wrap the speedos and he still couldnt get past.. Same setup as me.. Lifted, big tires.. So with the right tune and trans shift points.. It would be a close call..

This was before Matt.. I had a hot tune that put me up around 450hp.. I ended up blowing my heads off it with it.. Not sure what the Duramax had but it was stout.. We were probably around the same HP.. Now I'm only pushing 427hp with current tuning..

Not sure about it but it did seem like it he is also stock. the only thing i came up with why he seems to be faster is hes lighter and he has a reg cab. but i have no idea??

Probably too close to call if both trucks are identically equipped. As Jomac stated though, the chebbys are generally lighter so they can have an edge.

Throw tunes in the mix and you just gotta line 'em up and run 'em! If you're drag racing then alot depends on driver skill when leaving the line and choosing shift points. Bench racing is only fun for a very short while, line 'em up!

From myself... Reason its not safe without Studs is due to the cylinder pressure.. I got to replace gaskets and an EGR cooler that go round..

I'll be starting the new block this year.. Soon as I order a Shortblock, I'll get parts and build it over time in the shop..

There was a documented report in one of the diesel magazine on this comparing 2004 Chevy, 2002 Dodge and 2003 Ford in stock mode and tuned comparing three tuners (Edge, Superchips and Hypertech) in empty, 6,000lb tow and 10,000 tow for all these trucks.

The results were the Chevy was faster in all cases when in stock tune but the Ford was fastest when tuned in all cases.

Here is the link for those interested.

Of course since 2002-2004 each truck manufacture has slightly changed/improved things so I am not sure if there is a more recent similar style report available.

My modified 03 beats my buddies 06 Duramax with similar modifications. I am more concerend for reliability and so far my 03 outlasted his original 02 duramax thus the reason he has a new 06 duramax and we use our trucks for the same application.
