1992 F150 Electrical problem
Hey, I have a 1992 F150 4.9L, the truck had a very rough ride, the volt gauge was moving erratically and the battery light would come on. I took it to my mechanic and he found that the distributor had water damage. He replaced the dist. cap and rotor. The ride is OK now, but sometimes the volt gauge starts acting up (moving side to side) and the battery light comes on, also the lights dim and the same rate the volt gauge moves side to side. I took the truck back to the mechanic and he could not find anything wrong with the electrical system, of course he could not duplicate the problem. Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

I would start with the cheap fix first. Disconnect all ground wires and clean them then reattach them nice & tight. If that doesn't help, it hasn't cost you anything. I have read where grounding can be a problem on that series of trucks.
