weird start this morning

truck had been plugged in all night and it was about 23 when I went to start it. I only let the GP be on for about 15 seconds and then started it. It turned over and then would surge to about 600-700 rpms and drop off to almost nothing constantly and keep doing this back and forth. Turned it off and it did it again. Got out and looked in the engine bay and then tried it again. It started fine and normal and was great all day like always. What the heck could have caused this. I hope I'm explaining this good enough.

Thick oil cause that. Its what I call romping. Thinner oil will help. 5W40 or 10W30 diesel rated oil.

Just a thought, might want to let the glow plugs do there thing for a bit longer... I didn't have mine plugged in last night, 20ish out. Turned key, wait min and a half. Turn key and fired right up, no hesitation. Just food for thought but when it's that cold out let um go for a bit
