your talking about this firing order? 15426378

I know it is debatable... and I know that everyone has a story about it...
but I found a good deal on an eddie 600 cfm performance tune brand new in the box
for 195 bucks. but of course a 500cfm is only 250ish.

Is 600 too much? Ive read both sides of the story.

It's what I was thinking when I was trying to get an idea of your heads. From the looks of the pic's they've been opened up pretty good. It's definately not overkill to go 600, and going with what you said about your usage plans, might be what you need, especially if you go with a set of headers. A lot of people would be thinking 650, but that's getting on the big side for a 302. Still wish I knew your valves sizes.

I am plannig on going with a set of headers...now shorty or long tube I dont know...any recomnedations?

Unless he changed them, they will be stock, and he'll remember one way or another, just ask-you're feeding him right now. Long tube.

If you can get a figure on what a "ton" is, all the better. In other words, does he have an idea what these heads will "flow bench". Outside of any concrete answers, I'd still say go with the 600, and while you have him on the phone, ask HIS reccommendation. Let us know what he says.

Yes, the 15426378 firing order. Agree with the 600cfm carb. I have a 650 demon and a performer RPM on my 289 with a bit larger cam, and long tube headers (agree with the long tubes as well), the 650 is a little much for the street. I had a 600 edelbrock and it was alot better all around. Went to the 650 for 5.0 stroker that will hopefully soon be finished to replace the 289. The biggest problem Ive heard with the E6s is the valves are horribly shrouded, they can be ported on the intake and exhaust all you want but the shrouded valves (intake mostly) realy hurt them. These heads were fords attempt at high swirl heads, they didnt work that great (which is why they were not used long). Id definetly like to see some numbers on those heads you have as well. FYI, even an untrained hand can make a big difference on pretty much any SBF head by simply cleaning up the ports, gasket match, and removing the thermactor bump on the exhaust. But from the statments made the builder sounds well thought of, so id realy like to see what was achieved.
