Welcome to the board!!
Does the truck run now? is it driveable? My advice is to drive it for awhile, let it have a chance to tell you what it wants. While you are driving it you can search around and find yourself a good donor vehicle for an engine swap.
Build some memories with the truck. Trust me, they will go along ways during the dark days when you have the whole thing torn apart with no end in sight.

What Bobby said, And Welcome to FTE Nick. You have just found the best site and now own one of the best trucks. Lurk about for a bit while you learn the rules and the ropes. Start taking picks and get ready to post them as you build your gallery ( with text ) so that we can help you better. As you post with questions the pics will be there and we will know what we are looking at. Let the fun begin...

56'Fordomatic, If you are looking to get rid of the junky old Y-block and sluggish Fordomatic transmission. How much are you looking for both. My dad gave my 272 and fordomatic trans for free and since then i've been looking for a matching engine and trans combo to put back in the bay. looking to build it stock for the '57 I have. thanks. -Joe

You know what you want...I can tell, you are really ambitious! However, you are a little misguided, don't limit yourself to just a 460, go with a 460 for starters, but bore and stroke it, maybe to a 514 and put an 8-71 blower on it. TMeyer will build you one:

I can't think of anything sweeter than a scoop sticking out of the hood of an effie with one of these setups.
However, if the truck is road worthy and you can drive it now, I would. Drive it and plan everything out as to what you would like to do. You will change your mind along the way, but that is to be expected. Good luck..... I wish I had another project.

Welcome. If that 272 Y-block is running...no way would I remove it. I was at the 2006 supernationals in knoxville. Out of 1600 (???) trucks...there were 4 Y-blocks.
At the 2007 Ozarks Run in Branson...there were a little over 100 trucks (maybe 120). Only 2 Y-blocks and one of them was supposed to be a flattie (53).
I get so much attention at cruise ins with my Y-block. No one has a clue what it is.
