Yes, its a donk. But a donk is also a hootee. A hooptee doesn't have to have expensive parts, big wheels, etc. A hooptee can be a junk pile or a something with a lot of money in it. A hooptee, from everything I've seen, is generally any car that, ummm, well... has the "urban" look to it.

Well that's a pretty confuzzling word then in my book. So it can either be a piece of crap sitting in the yard on blocks, or a piece of crap sitting in the yard on blocks with a $20,000 stereo that will rattle the neighbors windows for blocks, big shiny rims but still doesn't run because the motor is blown and all the money is wrapped up in the aforementioned items.

All these terms are a *******ization of the French word "coupe," pronounced "koo-pay." This is a small carriage for carrying two people.

In the US it was pronounced "koopie," and eventually became hoopie, hoopey,"etc., asin, "I gotta take tho old hoopie to the garage." or, "Boy, that sure is a pretty little hoopie you got there," and so on. It eventually pertained to all vehicles, not coupes. If you got a new car, "Well, hoopty do, look at you." This would be a positive meaning, not a negative as it is sometimes used.

The *******ization has continued as the word has spread over the years. jd

I can't believe this stupid thing bleeped the word b^st^rd. It does have several meanings. Is this board that sensitive? jd

Not really confusing if you think about it this way: hooptee is a synonym for ghetto.

Close but no cigar

http://www.cardomain.com/features/donks
Donk = Mid-'70s Impala, Caprice and Monte Carlo or any mid-'70s ride with a sloping tail

Box = Mid-'80s Impala, Caprice and Monte Carlo or any mid-'80s ride with a boxy rear clip

Bubble = '90s Caprices and Impalas, '90s rides that are rounded on both ends

By the way, A "Donk" Drag Racing LOL

A hoopty is just a pice of **** rig, doesn't matter if it's "ghetto" or lots of money into it. There's a hoopty areound here which was an 80's Caprice. It was cut in half, a stepside bed put behind the plywood divider, and the nose was a Camaro nose.

Oh I know Ken, (laughing). I was just being a goof more than anything else. I remember back in the late 80's a rapper by the name of Sir Mix-A-Lot doing a song called my hooptie, it was funny as hell to listen to the lyrics, and it's pretty much what he was talking about, just a beat up ol car to run around in and chase the chicks, got laughed at more than anything else. I just think this is a great thread and man oh man the directions we can go with it. I see those dang things everywhere around Indy, what I really love watching is when it snows and they try to drive in it, that's about the time they realize those low pro, bad enough in the rain let alone snow tires really let them down.

Same out here. I think the "Dubz" started as 22" wheels, then was later accepted as any big wheels / w the lo-pros.

Thus continues the refining process of our language.
