When I am accelerating I hear a scraping, similar to a metal pole being drug across cement. This happens only when accelerating in second and third gear. If I maintain my speed, it does not do this, if I am in 4th and accelerate and am going faster than 35 I do not hear it unless I am pushing the truck more than usual.
The truck drives the same as it always does, just have the noise. its a cotinous noise that does not fluctuate if I maintain a steady increase in speed, if I accelerate more, It gets louder.
Amazing maddhatteraz! I'm having a very similar problem on my 428 auto. Just as you describe, when accelerating. What direction do you think the noise is coming from? Engine?, Tranny? Left? Right? I've looked at loose starter bendix cover or starter heat shied rattling against headers. It even sounds a little like very loud valve rattle, but as you say, truck continues to run fine with no change.
If you have the 2 piece drive shaft, theres a dust shield on the driveshaft in front of the carrier bearing that can rub the carrier when torqued .It can simply be bent away a little bit. When it rubs it makes the whole drive shaft ring loud.
