Yes they are 429 heads.

If you port & polish them,it will help them.

Could be 429 or 460. Ford/Lincon/Mercury all shared the same 385 block and head castings. Lincolns were 460s, the only difference being in a longer stroke and dished pistons.

The transfer case is most likley a N.P. 205. The transmission and transfer-case combo probaly came from a 351M/400 truck. They never put the 429 in a 4x4 from the factory and the 460 wasn't put into a 4x4 until 1983.

I have a DIVE A2B and was told that it was a 429 cj. The heads are D3VE A2A - is it possible that this is a 429 cj with modified heads or is it actually a 460? I was also told the '77 F-100 that it was in, was a factory ordered 429 cj.

There are people out there who misrepresent the 385 in a variety of ways. Be it intentional or a lack of knowledge, regular production 385s are sold to unsuspecting buyers as CJs and SCJs all the time. Almost as common a scheme are the '4-bolt truck blocks' and 'CJ Marine Engines'. Buyer beware.
