Coolant Filters
I've noticed something after every coolant filter change on both of our trucks -The SCA levels seem to drop after a new coolant filter is installed. (Running the test using the dip-strips from fleetguard)
The F250/350's we use for our business don't have filters on them and the SCA's seem to stay more consistent I.E. no sudden drops from 1 oil change to the next. I see more like a gradual decline as miles/time go on. I've never put filters on these although one has a WP going and I'm planning to use the Navistar WP w/ the filter built in instead of the Ford WP.
I always seem to have to add around a 1/2 bottle of DCA-4 at the following oil change (roughly 4 months later) on our 2 trucks. I re-check a week or two later and sometimes I still test low and have to add even more. Where as our company vehicles (no-filters) seem to go longer before needing additional additive. We're mostly a 7.3L fleet but plan to buy our 1st 6.4's in the spring to replace some of the older (02/03) F350's
Something going on here or, is it just a coincidence?

Our 00 was on its 2cnd WP @ 53K (I didn't add a filter till approx 45K) and the 03 (filter from almost day one) is still on the original @ 65K and going strong.
WP's tend to fail when you least expect/can afford it (murphy's law) besides Navistar feels they are important enough that they were included on all the T444E's as std equip when sold by them. I'd still run one even if I switched over to the G-05 (Gold) coolant just to be safe.
