Energy sway bar end links of leaf spring trucks

Looky what I found out. I purchased a set of energy suspension sway bar bushings for my 2003 F-250. The part number is 4.5186 So I start to project to replace them and to my amazement they will not work. So I bring them back to the parts store and they tell me that they do. I say no and they say yes. I got my money back and did a google search and found this. It states that you cannot rebuild the old style sway bar end link. You have to buy new. Scroll down to F-250 and see what it says.

Whoa neelly. I must be confused on what you are talking about. I just replaced my front sway bar bushings this weekend (rears are on back order). Are you saying that you can't get the right size or that you cant get them at all? Go to energy suspension or Summit racing and you can get them or I'm totally confused about what you are saying.

Go to the link on my first post and look to see what energy says about sway bar bushings for trucks with leaf springs.

ATTENTION. PLEASE READ IF YOU WANT FRONT SWAY BAR BUSHINGS FOR YOUR
2000-04 F-250, F-350 TRUCK with front leaf springs.
Ford's latest 'Better Idea' was to make a sway bar endlink with a joint on it, much like a tie rod end. This new style endlink cannot be rebuilt like the older versions. This should have been a better part than the old rubber bushings they used on older trucks, but it wears out in about 80,000 miles and they charge you $125.00 for a pair of new endlinks. To the best of our knowledge these endlinks are only available from Ford dealers. If you do a google search with the part numbers we provided above, you can find replacements for about $43.00 each.

I'm sure Energy had to say this due to all the returns because the bushings are not 'plug n play'. They do work, you just have to press out the old bushing/sleeve pieces. Ask me how I know. The new bushings are made to fit these. Look at the stepped bushing on the left. They fit perfect.

I'm just going to say you can get the replacements from Summit Racing. They are made by Energy Suspension (see picture and post directly above mine). I just replaced my front ones this past Saturday. The hard part is pressing the old bushings out. It took a 12 ton press to make it happen. Back together is easy.

So you press the old ones out and how do the new ones fit? They just sit inside and then you pass the bolt through?

Yep. I just pushed them in and then had to finish them off with a vise. Then slide the metal sleeve through and then the bolt goes through that.
If you decide to do it you won't be disappointed.

Keep in mind the old bushings only press out one way. If you look closely you'll see what I mean. I too used a 12 ton press and it was creaking pretty good. When the first bushing let go it sounded like a gunshot, yeah I shat myself. The new bushings slid right in (I used some lube on mine).

I took mine to a machine shop and they tried getting them out and they wouldn't budge. I ended up buying new links at the dealer. Maybe time to find new machine shop.

I did mine on a 2002 superduty 4x4. They are a pain in the A but once I got the old ones out with a lot of flames and smoke, the new bushings fit right in
