Kinda curious...
do most owners of the manual trannys "idle" about town, or keep in lower gears?

just kinda wondering because the truck (empty) gets about town in higher gears and low rpms pretty easily...so i am curious as to if anyone else take advantage of this in terms of mileage? i normally run around 1500rpm around town (30-50mph)

 

i run my 6.0 around town at 1000--1200 rpm. the rule is , if it will excelerate smoothly, your not lugging it. if it wont , you are lugging it. 1500 is ok too.

 

yeah, that's kinda what i am doin too....
and also, if i am doing that around for a while....then i'll give it a good run, get a bit of boost on the go, just to "clear throat"....hahah...more for fun that anything thou!

V10 and 6-speed here.

When driving around town I use the highest gear possible. I also have a 4.30 rearend so I can get away with running in fourth or overdrive basically anytime I'm not accelerating or crusing at less then 30mph.

Also in stop and go traffic I sometimes leave it in granny low and let it crawl along. It will climb up hills at idle without a problem.
