It looks like just the dino's are CJ-4 rated. Haven't found any syn that have that rating yet. Is anyone using the Rotella Syn in their 08's yet? I would fell more comfortable using a syn if Ford is saying we can go 10,000 niles between oil changes.

Currently the only available API CJ-4 Licensed synthetic oil available is
Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40 & Duron-E Synthetic 10W-40.
Rotella Syn has not been released in API CJ-4 as of yet.
I put the new Mobil 1 in my truck about a month ago- no problems starting but it hasn't gotten real cold here in Iowa yet... I use Mobil 1 in my cars as well and have always been very happy with it. No one around here carries it yet but I got it from a distributor in Ohio- search for the thread about oil where it is discussed to death...
I have been waiting to change my 6.4 L PSD oil as I am at 24000 kms/16000 miles. Living in BC, I want the 5W-40 weight oil so I can use it in cold weather below -7C yet tow a 5th wheel. Local Canadian Ford dealer indicated the 5W-40 Motorcraft oil woud be here at end of January. The delay was due to a Esso refinery fire last February in Ontario that makes Motorcraft oil for Ford of Canada.
I am hoping someone in the US can tell me that the 5W-40 Motorcraft dino oil is available in US as I am only 40 miles from nearest US Ford dealer. I need the oil changed now so I can continue to drive and enjoy my 2008 Ford truck.

Mobil one Delvac 100% synthetic meets the standard according to M1. I'm using it in my 07
i use rotella T synthetic,,16.98 4 quarts at wal-mart. i use this in everything i have, right from a 1500 watt honda gen to my 350. i dont care if its gas or diesel.the only thing i dont use it in is my harley. it gets 20-50 amsoil. if its good enough for a 600 cummins and 550 cats, it is sure good enough for my 6.4 baby diesel. its good for the old 2 cyl JD diesel tractors too.
are you aware that running this oil can cause damage to your emission system?
I do not totally agree with that. If you read the following Ford SSM, it would appear that using oil of a correct weight for the temps is more important than having oil with the CJ-4 certification.
6.4 PowerStroke cold weather starting procedure/recommendations:
With the new high pressure fuel system, the 6.4 PowerStroke starts at much lower temperatures than previous engine modles. To ensure proper bearing lubrication in ambient temperures below -10 degress it is imperative that the engine block heater be used. It is recommended the block heater be powered three hours prior to starting. In addition, it is recommened that a light oil such as 0W-40 or 0W-30 beused. Ensure the API rating of the oil is CJ-4. SSM 19603. CI-4 Plus is permitted if CJ-4 is not available, but severe duty oil change intervals must be followed.
what the h-l.you mean all the years that i started my big trucks at -30 below with starting fluid and 10-40 synthetic oil, i was destroying my motors? my god,,an engine that has to be pre heated to start at a balmy 32 degrees or it will granade!!! i dont believe it. ill just go out in -17 temps like it was a couple days ago in norwich ny and fire up my ford diesel and drive it. where do these storys get made up from? my old 600 hp KTA cummins wouldent start with out a good spray if it was below 32. i started it many times at well below zero and it lasted 1,400,000 miles and was still running fine when i scraped it and sold the engine. it never had a blocj heater nor did any of my other 3 BIG trucks.
oh,and how does a block heater warm up a frozen crankshaft and a tub full of oil hanging way away from the nice warm engine block. ?? yu people worry to much. if it starts, let it warm up for one minute and put it in gear and drive it.
some day people ( I hope) will realize that just because they us to do something, does not mean it is "best practice" any longer. Usto be if you did not like somebody you just shot the sucker.......not "best practice" today.

I assume that you are refering to Motorcraft 5W-40 Full Synthetic Diesel Oil (CJ-4)?
Anyway, I have no confirmation that it is actually available yet. I do see that information has been posted on it, including the Motorcraft part number. You may want to do some calling to dealers before you make the drive to the US.
I checked the web page you that you listed above. It announces the new Motorcraft Synthetic 5W-40 oil for the 6.4 L PSD. I am looking for the Motorcraft 5W-40 Dino oil. I havn't found any info on it yet other than a Ford parts man saying it will be out in Canada by end of January.

Just an FYI 5W-40 is a synthetic (probably Group III however not PAO).
