I just purchased a newer truck....and really have gotten a little old to wrestle with my old 71 custom....No power, No Air....and No gas mileage...lol.........At any rate, I thought that some of you could help me with pricing this truck.....Like I said a 71 Ford custom.....three on the tree...no power, no air....360 engine....New tires and new chrome wheels. The interior on a scale of 1 to 10 for its age would probably be a 9 without a doubt. It has been repainted the stock color of orange....I do not recall exactly what it is called. The truck had minimal body work on it to prepare it for painting. The only problem is that I did not do exactly what I should have to take care of a little rust on the passenger side front fender and it is starting to bubble a little. The tailgate was perfect until the wife let the garage door down on it.....If I am not mistaken is has 80,000 plus miles on it and has not had any major work done since I have owned the truck....I think I bought it somewhere around 1975, but I am really not sure. The old truck was pretty straight when I bought it and the paint was really pretty good when I painted it about 5 years ago....For its age....this is a beautiful old truck....I just don['t need it in my garage any longer.....MY LOCATION IS WESTERN OKLAHOMA....I KNOW THIS SOMETIMES HAS A BEARING UPON THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE.....HELP IF YOU CAN....THANKS IN ADVANCE....NOMADIC
Around the Atlanta area that is around $800-$1200. There are a few things that would add greatly to the value:
1) title
2) 4x4
3) automatic
4) floor shift if standard
Without #2 and #3 it can be a very hard sell locally. Your best bet would be to put it in E-Bay with a lot of pictures with compression test data.
You might get someone to buy it just for the chrome parts if yours are in nice condition, so make sure to take good pictures of that.
$2000 would probably be the limit on E-Bay, more likely the $1200-$1500 range depending on condition. Bright orange will be a turn off (DPW), burnt orange would gather more money.
Watching E-bay will bear this out. Example E-bay has one for $1525 #140193414063 (automatic though), but, I wouldn't get too excited since it has a zero feedback high bidder. Many relistings from those.
#160193021031 would be the one to watch since it is a standard. Year difference in this category doesn't account for much difference in price unloess it is a 1967. 68-1972 will all be about the same price.

That is definitely an insult....and I would take it to the scrapyard for that kind of money.....Thanks a lot for the great news about my old ford.....I will not reply anymore.
What would I know , I owned a 1971 F-100 4x4 not too long ago if you bother to check the 67-72 forum.
Gas is $3 a gallon, hardly anyone knows how to drive a standard and those that do want a ricer or they don't want column shift.
Sorry for the reality check, watch the E-Bay auctions, they determine the real market value, not wishes or guesses. Which is why I helped you with the auction numbers. If you sell it for $300 scrap or $1200 on E-Bay doesn't make a difference to me, only to your own wallet.
Value is a two sided thing... One side is what you want for the truck. If you're like me you will set your price and stick to it until the right buyer comes along.... Takes a lot of patience and a bit of advertising. I prefer Deals on Wheels.
EBay is strange... Some days it's hot, some days it's not. Just have a realistic starting bid, and put the reserve price at the minimum you'll take for it.
Hard to say on the value without seeing it. I won't give my stuff away just cuz the market happens to be light at the time or is low in someone else's area. With good paint and a nice interior, new tires and wheels, a good runner, and well cared for it is light years ahead of the builders available int the $1,000 to $2,000 range.
If it were mine, think I would take care of the rust issue and set the price around $5500 to $6500. If someone thinks they can build or buy a nicer truck for less, just wish them well and send them on their way.
The reason most sell their rides so cheap is because they get stupid and work themselves into some sort of financial jam and have to give it away. I'm stubborn. If you want my truck, you're going to pay my price. If not, I'll keep it. Some people don't know a nice truck from a junker..... But who cares? That's not the kind of buyer who would be interested in yours anyway!!!!!!
PS---The main reason the market is so soft on pickups right now is that a lot of people are willing to give theirs away for half what they have in it.....

Demographics has a lot to do with value.
Out here in SoCal, where's there's no rust, running, driveable 1965/79 trucks sell in original condition, for $500.00 thru $2000.00.
A neighbor just bought a 1974 Ranger with a 360, with P/S and A/C for $800.00! The ad was in the Penny Saver.
Out here, these trucks are a dime a dozen. Believe it..or not, many are still used as daily drivers, especially by gardeners, and other tradesmen.
However, put these rust free trucks in the Midwest or East, they'll sell before the ink is dry on the ad, usually for far more GREEN than they do here.
btw: On ebay, much of what you see is shilled...bid on by friends of the seller to boost the price. You'll see vehicles with reserves of 10 grand not meeting the reserve by only a few 100 bucks, because most of the previous bids are phony.
Sellers also use ebay as a listing agent, keeping the reserve high. The vehicle doesn't sell, then the seller contacts the higher bidders and tries to make a deal after the auction closes.

I would go to traderonline.com and see what your competition is and go from there. I'm an old real estate appraiser, so I always look for comps before pricing anything.
When i was lookin for mine i noticed some prices on all kinds.
I just bought a 78 Ranger. Auto,351M,(needs work, didnt run great) non wrkn A/C good paint, little rust, good interior, 133K miles,
I bought it in Metter,GA the guy was askin 2500
I know we wee lookin at a 71 in town with a straight 6 that needed paint and engine work. He was askin 2 grand.
It sounds like that around here you should get 1500+.
i would say that no less then $2000. for the right buyer a colom shift and no ac and no power is perfict. i bought a 69 long bed 2X4 with a 390 and a C6 auto for 2100 and felt that it was a good price here in Southern California. i was also able to sell it for about that much. dont let one guy that buys junk trucks turn you off of getting a fair price.
I just bought a 71 f100 custom for 750.00 and does not run. An engine fire and looks like it will run after anew carb and some parts in the engine compartment ,that fried.
It has a beautiful red paint job and is a Virginia truck with 66,000 miles.
After some interior work and a carb, etc I would not consider less than 5,000 buckaroos for it. In Ohio---old trucks are rugged and no frill trucks, and I think you can expect better results with auto trader magazines or the other ones suggestd above.
Ebay has a reserve option, and you don't have to take a meager sum suggested above for your obviously loved and cherised TRUCK with style!!! Bill
