Would have to agree with JDaddy here. It sounds like you are putting yourself and likely others at risk by driving the truck around when it could konk out at any moment.
This is clearly a warranty issue that needs to be resolved by a reputable dealer and not glazed over. If you have trouble at one dealer, find another and keep at it until its fixed. Thats my opinion anyway. Good luck and post with results if you can.

I remembered that some people had a problem like this and there is a TSB I believe out about it. The problem lies in the throttlebody/motor assembly for the drive-by-wire system. When cold or hot, if it has a problem it will intermittently fail. Your dealer should replace it without any hesitation.

I have an 04, 5.4 and it shuts off when I slow to a stop. I have had it serviced at a delear and it continues to have the same problem. Dose anyone have a solution? It almost caused an accident over the weekend.
Thanks

Paul (tpr)...How did the dealer "service" it, and how often does this occur?? I agree with the posts, it is a serious concern, needs to be documented at NHTSA, and needs to be corrected immediately.
There is a TSB out there, but I thought it only affected earlier production (when was yours built??). Earlier trucks may have had bad throttle bodies, and on later trucks a reflash of the PCM was the cure.
In the meantime, (I know this'll sound crazy), turning on the A/C will tell the computer to raise the RPM's at idle, and may allow the thing to keep running. But get it fixed ASAP!!
Let us know how you make out!!

Stalling 2004 SC
Mine too with 2500 miles stalls at least twice a day. Especially when coming to a stop. Even on the highway in rush hour.
I see that others have the problem, but I didn't see alot of fixes listed.
I've begun to wonder if the "diesel" sound tapping in the engine is somehow related?

My new 2004 XLT SCAB 4X2 5.4 did this same thing. It stalled on me once at a stop sign. The truck was going back to the dealer to fix a small paint blemish. A service guy from the dealer called me to set an appointment and asked me if there were any other problems. I mentioned the stall and he said take it to the service dept before the body shop and they checked it out. They ended up replacing the entire computer and it works fine now. I really didn't think anything was wrong because it only did it once . I had to wait for the part to come in and a couple days later I received a courtesy call on my service visit. That night it stalled again in an intersection. So, instead of waiting for the post card I was told I would get when the part came in, I called the service dept the next day and the part was in and it was fixed. You are right it is dangerous and you might need a whole new computer like I did.
Good luck
