<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->

Just a heads up on what some of our lawmakers are trying to do...if it passes it could be really expensive for us and other hot rodders especially if other states do it as well!!!!!! we need to stop this NOW!!!!!

There is a bill that the Washington State Legislature is trying to pass
in Olympia that, if successful, will directly add huge costs to our
vehicle license fees. Everyone needs to know about so this situation so
that you can contact your representatives and voice your objection.

The bill is SB 6900 and it adds an "engine displacement" fee to the
vehicle license tabs upon renewal.

The fee has a varied amount depending on the size of the vehicle's engine:

Engine Size (liters) Rate Schedule
Up to 1.9 $0
2.0 - 2.9 $70
3.0 - 3.9 $225
4.0 - 4.9 $275
5.0 - 5.9 $325
6.0 - 7.9 $400
8.0 or over $600

For each car & truck that you own, calculate the rate by matching the
engine size in liters to the dollar amount. Add the amounts for each
vehicle and you'll see that the average two car family will be paying
$500+ every year in "displacement fees" on top of the normal license
fees. If you have three vehicles, you'll be paying even more.

The average family is already struggling with the high cost of gasoline,
electricity, food and everything else, and our lawmakers want us to pay
more, thinking we have unlimited deep pockets. This will do great damage
to the budgets of retirees on fixed incomes as well.

Now is the time to be very vocal against this bill.

I have contacted all of our representatives, and I would encourage
everyone reading this to do the same.

Here's the web page for the bill where you can read the text:

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summ...6900&year=2007

Here's the link for contacting your representatives:

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/Default.aspx

If we don't threaten mass rebellion over this, they'll pass this bill
and we'll be paying huge fees every year on top of their increase in the
gas tax. They have to know that we won't stand for any more taxes or
increase in licensing fees.

I've told my representatives that I will actively work to see that any
lawmaker that supports this bill is replaced at election time.

Please contact your legislators, then copy the text of this email, and
forward it to as many people as possible that you know in Washington
State, and encourage them to contact their representatives and strongly
voice their objection to this bill.

i geuss these people really are trying to start a d-mn civil war huh ? no freaking brains and to me it appears as an outright bold a--ed attempt to put more cash in their pockets . has nothing to do with the economy of vehicles or global warming or anything of that nature . but they will probably use one or all of the excuses as a cover for it .

So that really means that my attempt at fuel economy by putting a 3.0 diesel in my truck would cost me $225 We need more gearheads in government. Nuff said.

Gotta love the government. They tried the clunker bill back in the early 90's, but in the federal government. Don't think that bombarding the state legislature is useless. I have contacted the state here in Oergon many times for things, and am currently working with my rep about a law that says Oregon gets 60% of punitive damages awards. The state government does listen to it's people, but only when the numbers are strong enough to effect change. They have to. The government is required by constitution to effect change if the people demand it. Failure to do so is actually considered constitutionally illegal. I have gone as far as to refer to our governing officers as local terrorists, and no different than Saddam with their abuse of power. They don't like that. When they know the number of people that they've ruffled feathers on, they do things to make it a bit better. They know that it only takes the right amount of corruption, and it can spark a revolt. They DO think that the people will not rise against them, but they also know that they are outnumbered. You need to contact your state reps, and rally every person you can possibly find, and ask the local and state news to run a quick segment on it, they will do it, because it effects them as well. The more people that know, the more support you have to squash it.

You'all are making Virginia look pretty civilized. If it's over 25 years old and you promise only to drive it for fun and to shows and to get fixed and maybe some other times, but not to much... its 100$ for life and you only have to promise that it is safe (on the same form). No inspections

oh and our gas is pretty cheap

Cool SB6900 doa!

This bill (s.b.6900) would have done just what it said and included all motor vehicles no mater the age- including modifids ie:trucks, hot rods ect.I did contact my reps. in both houses and have found out this bill never made it out of committee and is in effect dead until after the Fall elections at which time it will likly be introduced again in some new form. This bill also would have created a new fee stucture for emissions output. The fee stucture to be collected was just what was posted. REALLY OUTRAGEOUS but true. Gotta sleep with one eye open when the legislature in session. Mark
