Deck VS pick up box

I seen a real nice flat deck on a crewcab yesterday and I`m getting tempted to do the same on the 92 F250. It was about $7,500 installed and I think could build one for about $1,000.
If properly done it looks quite nice while being a lot more practical on a work truck, it would be nice to have under deck tool boxes to keep tie downs and extra tools in.
What do you think?

If you really need it for practical reasons, do it!
Making work easier is priority for me too.
Of course you will need to remember that you do not have bedsides anymore.
You might be dropping new Ford truck parts all over the road - and I will be right behind you picking them all up for myself - well, that is if I were anywhere near you.

Take some time planning the build, and make it unique / different from everyone elses.

$1000 doesnt get much these days Morris! However if you can put some pieces together from stuff laying around its not bad. We have a service deck on our 1993 DRW 4x4. Access to stuff is no comparisson to a truck box. We have 150 gallons of diesel upthere, a;ong with a Honda generator, large mechanics tool box, tools from hell, oxy/acetylene torch, jacks, blocks, chains, etc all in thie own spot. We have a box on either side behind the rear wheels below the deck - one is for the battery operated grease gun, grease, and any oils and fluids. We built shelving in the big closet on the passenger side and there is everything from soup to nuts in there and not bad to find stuff. All boxes are lockable! Also have beacons, rear work lights, and antennas mouted up there. We will be pulling it off in the new year to make some mods and repaint it ands rewire it and put in all LED lights. If I could post a picture I would.

Will be working on a wooden flat bed for the Crew here shortly. Done right they look real good. If you need it, go ahead. Of course in my case it's a matter of beating the rust!!

A well set up flat deck would work much better than a box for work. I would go for the deck!

I like the deck idea cause it`s also a matter of beating the rust which isn`t all that bad...If I could do great bodywork.
With a deck I can haul heavy & sharp objects without as much worry, I`m too fussy about not beating up a box.
It`s sounding better all the time, thanks for the input.

I call dibs on the box if you want to get rid of it.

Nothing beats a deck when it comes to a work truck.

One of the drawbacks is when you haul stuff - its not as secure as in a truck box. Tho other that I forgot to mention is the extra weight may cut down on payload quite a bit. We will be adding another leaf to ours when the deck comes off. There are lots of ways with a little bit of checker plate, stainless, a few mudflaps, stacks, and lighting options to make it look juicy!!!!

i was noticing on the trailtech website that the decks are quite heavy. they look pretty sharp, too bad they don't have pricing there...
