Cam Position Sensor: Why the huge price gap?

I was searching online for a spare cam position sensor online and I noticed that there are two prices. Some place would charge $150 or more while others charge $25.

Is the $150 better?

Nope. Probably had to do with patent and gouging issues. The gray cheap one is the way to go. Matter of fact, you can probably get one free on Ford recall.

i was at the dealer to inquire about a refund on towing and deductible when mine crapped out in 06 (i didn't really read these forums enough back then), and the service manager told me that ford lowered the price on the new ones once they knew a recall was eminent. they figured (correctly by the way) that lots of folks would buy a new one, and replace their black one themselves. by doing so, they are ineligible for any recall refunds.

Guess good move by Ford. Dooh, better move. Never take my truck to them and never recommend anyone to take a truck to them.

Same for me. Think I'll still order a spare for the glovebox

Hah, and they were right. I went and got one for $25. It's in my glove box next to a brand new black one. I will probably go down there and get the new one just to make them do it. Try to keep the old one too. And there will be a padlock on my OBD port.

Tenn,

At first I thought that Kwik's "padlock on the ODB port" was a little extreme but after thinking about it and knowing the "ability" of some of the dealer techs, he was right on. It is your truck and you have the right to protect it. I have the locks sitting here on my desk. One will be installed before I do the recall.

Don't spend 90 bucks on the blue one. It has not been proven to be any better than the new grey one. Part # F7tz-12K073-B is 15 to 30 bucks at the dealer.

I'd love to see the look on the tech's face when he looks in the cab and sees that.

In addition to what Robin (Payson) posted, be careful with the blue CPS and a tuner. They have been rumored to not play very well with tuners due to the advancing of the timing. I took mine out for just that reason on the advice of Diesel Innovations.

I've seen one floating around. I'll try finding a link.

Edit: Cleatus12r is the one who's done it. No pics though. Post #12. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...dlock+obd+port

Replaced my cps Friday morning, in and out in 35 minutes or so. Didn't finish the crossword or my coffee. They wouldn't give me the old one as a back up. Sometimes you can find a dealership that will do the right thing without any hooks.
Thanks
