Power Stroke:
You seem to understand the specs better than I. Question: I have a F-350 PSD, 4 x4 long bed, dwhl, KR, with these options: 4 x 4 off road package; 13000#GVWR package; camper package.
Somehow when I read these updates it seems I am losing 1000# in my GVWR from my 2005, same spec'd truck, where I had 26,000#GVWR, now it seems I am cut back to 25,000 # GVWR.
I'm going to go check the door column again.
Thanks in advance foryour reply.

Anyway, if you can tell me the axle ratio's of your '05 and '08 I can better answer your questions.

The '05 had a GVWR of 13,000 lbs. and a GCWR of 23,500 lbs. Not sure where you got the 26,000 lbs. from as it was only available with the tow boss and its 4.30 ratio. Anyway your '08 carrys the same exact ratings, GVWR of 13,000 lbs. and a GCWR of 23,500 lbs. So there is no difference there.
Any reduction you are seeing in load capacities is simply because the 08's are heavier than the '05-'07 trucks.

Ok, final question till Steeler game. I bot a 7 ton HORTON equipment trailer. I had it de rated to GAWR & GVWR of 12,900#. I just read the label and that is fact.
Next, I have a 2005 or 2008 F-350 with a GVWR rating of 13,000#.
Am I legal in the eyes of GOD and many states to haul a total load of 25,800# which includes, me, dog, wife, trailer, truck and bobcat?

On second thought. Have you actually scaled your truck and trailer ready to roll at 25,800 lb. Seems a little high considering the trailer and its load can not exceed 12,900 lbs. based on your statement. I would have guess the total weight to be around 23,000 lbs. and that is probably high.

One thing about having an education in accounting. When you are dumb you stay dumb. Thus, I repeated and continued in the same manner. WOW! All I can say is back in my younger days with a stupid old one ton chev or GMC dump I would haul 5 ton of 1-B stone with a chipper on the back of the truck and simultaneously pulled an old heavy trailer with a 580 - c or older. Probably would still be in jail if I was caught! Now, I try to do it right, subtract out 10% for dealer lies, and am on the nose. At least I learned something in accounting--salesmen lie! My actual weight when I pull bobcat is around 23,000#.

You'd want the whole rig scaled, everything loaded, hooked up and in the truck and trailer, and all on the scale at once. This is what your real Gross Combined Weight is. Then roll just your front wheels off and get that weight (we'll get to that in a sec), then roll your truck off but leave the trailer on, still hooked up. If you can, detach your trailer and go back and get total and rear again for just the truck.
You now can do some simple math to see if you are 1) over weight or ok for the whole rig, and 2) over your rear axle rating (or worse, tires) by: subtracting the wieght of the trailer only (still attached to the truck) from the weight of the combined truck rear axle + trailer weight you got just before. If you did the truck by itself you can also subtract it from the 1st weight you got (GCW) and get what your trailer weight by itself is.
A word of warning: ignorance is bliss -- once you start weighing things, you'll never feel the same going down the road if the numbers come out high...
btw: enjoy the game...
Also to all: sorry for going so off topic here, just thought it was important to mention with the current theme...

Do not apologize diesel_dan. You brought up some very valid points and I would like to thank you for that.
People have to remember the weights that Ford advertises are "maximum" weights and those are based on a basic XL with no options. Once you start adding XLT, Lariat and KR packages and other options the trucks weight starts to go up and the capacity starts to drop.
As suggested, the only way to really know is by knowing your vehicle and trailer weights and subtract those from the GVWR and GCWR accordingly to find out where you stand.
