I purchased the EEC from RockAuto. I'll send an email to them and see what they think.

Unfortunately the local salvage yards did not have a EEC when I needed one. I paid $88.00.

They are on there but somehow I could not link to the page and post a link to it after I found them.
It looks like you will have to have your part number off the old one.

It was $88.00 after the core return.
Subford is correct, you will need the part number to be sure to get the right one.

I still am trying to figure out how it seperates a 3 digit code from a 2 digit code.
The digit separation is the same for both two and three digit codes. If you'll notice, the delay time between digits of a single code is shorter than the delay time between the last digit of one code and the first digit of the next. Once you stare at the check engine light blink a few times, you will get a feel for the delay time and you will recognize when a new code is starting and when it's just the next digit of the current code. That link I posted earlier should help you out with the timings.

Driver’s side kick panel. You get to it from under the hood but you have to loosen the inter fender to get it out.

I emailed customer service at RockAuto and these guys are great. They contacted the manufacturer of the EEC and found out that my symptoms could be from a bad unit. They preferred that I try another code reader before sending it back, but they will replace it free of charge.
I'm am now a big fan of RockAuto.

well the whole in the cab and under the hood sounds kind of contradicting? Is it in the cab behind the plastic drivers side kick panel or is it under the hood near the icm or something?
