Aussie Chapter

Hi All,

General purpose query (again!). Trying to track down a set of headers/extractors to suit a 1968 Ford Bigsix 240/300, which dump in the middle, pointing straight down, but still clear the starter motor without having to remove them if ever have trouble with it (starter). As I'm in rural Australia, find that the net is the only way seem to be able to get info. This is the project where I'm fitting the big six into the DJ Jeep, just about got it all sorted, engine mounts, radiator, carby height etc.

I have limited space where the standard exhaust manifold dumps at an angle, to clear the Jeep steering shaft. IF the inlet manifold can be reused, ( I think they are simply bolted to the exhaust) and seeing as I have to remove them because of a leaking exhaust manifold gasket anyway, I also have to clear both the brake as well as fuel lines which run down inside the right hand chassis rail. Think the easiest would be to drop straight down, then cross over to the left hand side behind the bell housing and then plenty of room to run it out , over the diff out the back.

Would like to try and retain the inlet manifold if I can, as I have already sorted the carby height problems out, have heard where I may be able to simply blank off the underside of the inlet manifold where it bolts to the exhaust. Also seen for sale on maybe feebay, where you can buy a set of flanges to suit these engines and then get a decent exhaust shop to make up a set from scratch. As I'm not after high revs but more simplicity and reliability, also with an eye to the budget, any thoughts?

I know that guys in the US/Canada seem to be able to lay their hands on just about anything for these engines, over here the six cylinder Australian 200 and 250 seem to be predominant, although there are some parts around for the 240/300, they are getting harder to source. Maybe some Aussie reader/forum member may be able to give me a few pointers?
Thanks, Dave 64
