Best case is he got lucky and didn't do any damage. He needs to drain that tank, fill it full with diesel and an additive, change the fuel filter, and make sure he gets all of the liquid out of the fuel bowl.

Worst case is he's cause some serious damage, like a bent rod or broken injector tip. About the only way to know for sure without tearing down the motor is to get the gas out and see how it runs.

Don't be too hard on your boy! I've known of a couple of cases where the tanker truck making the delivery had previously been carrying gasoline and then picked up a load of diesel for delivery before the tank was cleaned out. I had another friend that pumped some kerosene at a quick mart store whose tank had been filled from a similarly gasolene contaminated delivery truck. He put it in his kerosene heater in his living room and as soon as the heater got hot enough to start the catalytic process the flames started shooting out of the heater and then it exploded and set the whole living room on fire. They almost lost their home.

Yeah, don't kick him too much. I know (very well I might add) a guy who had his diesel truck for 6 1/2 yrs before he put filled his tank with gas. Luckly, he smelled the stinking gas on his hand just as he started the truck and the heat blew the smell across his hands in his nose. While no damange occured and no gas went through the pump, the fact that he had to call his father in law and get him out of bed late on Friday night to grab some 5gal (6 to be exact) cans and something to siphon the tank with was expense enough. By the way, Ya'll ever notice that BP stations are the only ones that don't use green for their diesel? They use diesel for everything else and black for diesel.

Yessir, I have noticed that about the BP's, thats why I dont go there anymore, I am already distracted enough when I get to the pump, and now I have to decipher the BP color code.... I dont think so.

to the OP. been there done that, it happens, clean tank, and bowl refill with diesel and try again.

I was at a Chevron today and it had a goldish colored handle for diesel. I thought that was weird. My wife, who usually isn't that observant about such things, said "are you sure that's diesel?"

Around here, there are some E85 pumps with bright yellow hoses and yellow pump handles. When I had my Ranger, I always got funny looks when I pulled up to that pump and stuck it in my truck. I only saw a couple others use it.

Different story -- when I was in Egypt last month, my wife casually mentioned she "got gas in my truck". I said "YOU DID WHAT?!?!?!?" She just laughed and said she'd been waiting to use that line on me...

depends on the ratio of gas to diesel fuel...
if it's in the neighborhood of 50/50, I'd dump three or four quarts of 10w30 motor oil in it, a can of Power Service, and fill it with diesel to the neck and drive it.

The only way you're gonna get rid of the drain fuel is to either light a LOT of bonfires with it, or if you know someone that has a piece of multi-fuel equipment.. like an old Cat dozer maybe...

won't be a lot of Cat dozers around that used tractor fuel, probly alot more old farm tractors that do
you could add more gas and also use in an older carburateted engine

IDK, I am with the dude who says it isnt a big deal. I throw up to a gallon in the Cummins w just about a 30 gal tank when it gets cold. Lights the fire a lot easier. If it was summer I would be a lot more nervous. They say the big problem with gas is it loosens all the sht in the tank and plugs the filter. You never know what the ratio was until the old man tells us.
PS - BP sucks. I hate the color coding and the LOM on the Alaska Pipeline. Kwik Trip uses gold handles on their pumps too for their "diesel gold" or some crap like that.
