Does anyone know if there is a difference between the automatic and manual transmission 300 block? I have a 240-np435 in my 67 F100, and I'm looking at getting a 300 for a rebuild. The 300 is an automatic. I was wondering if the 300 automatic would have the proper holes drilled and taped for the manual clutch setup. Or do I need to find a 300 block that had a manual trans.

I believe all of the blocks have the cast in bosses for the clutch pieces. But I think the machining was omitted on later blocks. I' m visiting a storage building tomorrow where there are some late model OEM blocks. I will check one. You could drill and tap them yourself if that is the case.
Also, earlier blocks do not have provisions for mounting a knock sensor, if you require one.
Also some later blocks are not drilled for a dipstick; rather the dipstick was relocated to the pan.
Then there's the mechanical fuel pump opening, if needed. It may need opening.

Well I looked at three late model EFI engines I have in storage. All of them have the clutch bosses machined and tapped. That includes the large boss for the equalizer ball stud and the three smaller bosses for ??? forgot. Two blocks were 1987 castings (E7TE-) the other one I could not get to to read.
