Have You Quit Smoking Yet! PART 1
#136
Late to this post and for what it's worth, this is what I posted several years ago on another internet site dealing with ones who want to quit smoking:
Quit, or quit not. There is no chewin Nico gum or patches.
I've told people before and I'll say it again. You want to quit??. Quit cold turkey. No Nico gum. No patches.
This crap about needing the gum or patches is horse hockey.
Hmm, lets see now. I started smoking when I was ??? years old. Yeah, it went like clock work. I picked up my first honest to goodness first cigarette, took a drag......... and just about coughed myself silly and brought up my lunch. Damn, that wasn't so bad.
It only took me a week to get used to that smell and that awful stuff I was pouring into my lungs, well.... okay......3 weeks.
Kinda like I'm in a house fire, but not really a house fire.........a smouldering house...yeah thats it.
Whether you remember or not your body did what it is designed to do just like everyone elses body did when they started smoking. Your physical body reacted but yet you continued to smoke. Your mind told your body its okay, it doen't matter you don't like cigarette smoke, I like it and I will continue.
Now you can do the reverse. Yeah, there will be withdrawal symptoms when you quit cold turkey, but you can get over those. Remember, you got over the complaints your body gave you when you started smoking.
Uh, yeah, I smoked for 5 years. Only kid in the family that smoked out of 4 kids. I have been smoke free for 18 years. Stopped smoking the end of July 1989, cold turkey as mentioned above.
Mom and Dad started smoking real young. Know what?? Mom died in 1998 at age 65 from...........you guessed it.......Lung Cancer. Buried Dad in February 2003 from............you guessed it..............Emphysema. Gee Dad, how did you get that.
I can smell a smoker from about a mile away. Gee, I wonder why.

Well put guys. I wanted to quit drinking and other sundry things, just did it. Had to drop some weight, just did it. Wanted to fly with my Goldwing and have an ET shadow on the moon, just did it and saw the moon, the asphalt, the moon, the asphalt. Wanted to walk again, just did it.
What ever it takes for some people, whether it's patches, gum, candy as long as they accomplish the goal. Some times you do things you may not really have the desire to do but you know has to be done. I have no desire to have a colonoscopy, but the doctors and being over fifty say different. I know I'll be smoke free during that procedure, I can use that to buy me a few hours time. Maybe I'll hang out in some Philly restaurants and government buildings.

Just had my second colonoscopy. They found and removed small polyps each time before they had a chance to grow into something nasty.
Do not delay either, quit smoking and the procedure. You are the only one who agrees with me on FTE, most of the time, well sometimes, errr usually never, but I don't care as long as your here to disagree then.

Quit smoking cold turkey Labor Day 1978.Will live 10 yrs, longer than one who smokes today. My Dad smoked for many yrs.He quit in 1990.Too late the damage was done.He passed away April 8 2003.I do not see how a person can put those chemicals in your body or how you can smoke & put gas in your vehicles.Try hard to quit . We are your support network.Good luck !
