Just curious... why aren't you sandblasting instead of sanding? I need to do this to my bed too.

Costs and Tools

One item not yet in my garage: aircompressor. Wish blasting was an option but with my budget it wasn't.

I think I'm doing an okay job....

IT looks great. Please tell me you are using an electric sander, not just elbow grease.

Man that looks like a lot of work.

Plus side is you bed looks to be in real good shape, should turn out real good with paint on it.

Thanks 3Mike6

Thanks 3Mike6. I really love my truck and first wanted to get all of the rust off of the bed. As you've noted, the bed looks to be in real good shape and aside from a little rot towards the front the rest is in tact. I count my blessings for sure.

Thanks for the acknowledgement and encouragement. I'm not made of money so elbow grease and lesser expensive methods will have to be used to prevent my truck from deteriating away.

Any recommendations on painting?

I like to use engine enamel or spray on liner myself. The spray bomb liner doesn't last as long as the brush on stuff. Spray bombs $20 but, you might have to redo it in a few years. Or, brush on stuff $80 but, it should last about 7-8 years in the weather. If the truck was kept inside.... maybe 15 years with that stuff. I have a toneau over my bed now so I used the spray bomb bedliner and it's holding up really well. I use the spray bomb stuff on my utility trailer and it lasts about three years with the weather and throwing dirt, rocks, logs, trash, metal, motors, trannies, etc... in it.

She is sporting new chrome steel wheels now... Those are just hub caps.

As you can see the sides are holding up. But, the bottom paint is scraped clean off and rusting again. Thank god I have a 1/4 thick plate there.

I'm going to throw a $275 Maaco paint job on it this winter to see how that lasts.

Love my utility trailer it keep my F100 bed nice for lumber and tool hauling etc.

Thanks Mecinoid. I'm going to be going the affordable route and use the old product "Rust Destroyer" as the etching primer. Then I'll be painting the bed glossy black and the sides flat black. The center panel of the front of the bed is going to have my avatar graphic painted onto it. It should look pretty tough....Ford tough.

This movie rocks:

Your truck is pretty bad *** looking.

Yeah, I'm one for keeping the cost down. Well, at least to this point. I think I'm in stage two of my hobby. Build a beefy motor. Redo the body work and paint the whole thing again. That paint is 10 years old. I'm ready to take all the little dents out and repaint her now as well.

As for the movie. I saw it. Good Clubhouse Movie. Flat screen on the shop wall. Now we're talkin'. I kinda resemble Kurt some say.
