Got a 66 custom cab truck that keeps blowing up the passenger tail light. Have checked all the wiring and can find nothing wrong with it all need some ideas if any one has got them?
The socket looks good. And went through the wireing again. still can not find a short. The only thing I can find is the lens does not seal off it my be getting wet in the rain.
Allen, It can be just one of the strands that is exposed and is touching metal on the truck somewhere that can blow a bulb.
The tail lights are on a single wire (left, right, and license plate), with the passenger side at the end. The wire comes down the driver side chassis rail powers the driver side tail, then the license plate, and on to the passenger side tail.
I doubt that moisture is causing it, but it is possible. Pull the lens, and then the housing, look in the area where the wire connect to the bulb socket.
BTW: What bulb are you using, the bulb should have a number like 1157 on it.
The taillight buckets (bodies) are the same as: 1964/66 F100/250 Styleside pickup / 1966 Bronco / 1965/66 Econoline. The buckets came with the socket and wiring as original.
