Help...7.3 e350 thermostat replacement,abs ,starting
<HR style="COLOR: #666666" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message --><TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">Hi, im in the cold north ,close to santas place.I just purchased a 96 e350 4x4 ambulance 4wabs dually with the 7.3l,83000miles(135K) it has 3 issues
1.. temp is low,i do have heat front and rear while driving and high idle. and i have the grille shut in with canvas.it just seems to stay about 1/4 up the gauge never reaching the mid point.
2.. sometimes a rea b**ch to start have to use a WEE bit of instant start(scarey)even after plugged in.always runs good but has that real sour diesel smell even after hours of operation and the caty has just been removed.is that a normal smell?is there an air/fuel adjsment? my 07 dodge 5.9 cummins doesnt stink like this does.
3..abs light is on,ford scanner cant communicate with module(needs replacing they said so i bought and replaced only to find it doesnt work either. i replaced it still abs light is on. abs light was off until my mechanic replaced ALLthe front braking parts, then the light came on.if i use low 4x4 in reverse it kicks the abs on and is ok for 2 mins then comes on again after forward high speed.
I tried researching these issues but cant get find the right link or forum help.i am a newby here so maybe have blocks on for now.
I need location info and re/re of thermostat and which one to use. under the hood or under the console?
Need help in locating the glowplug relay? and how hard is it to replace the g/plugs?
The abs issue maybe solved if i had a wiring/sensor schematic including ohm meter values.
This is a working ambulance so repair down time is also an issue.Any help i get will be greatly appreciated.

this pix is from Guzzle website
where the black relay is thats where you gave your GPR
jump those 2 big posts for 30 sec and see if it starts better.check your block heater , cause its plugged in it dont indicate that is working. check cable for brakes all way to the block.
check here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...ke-thread.html for more info on glow plugs
remember im not sure 96 has the same layout
your heat problem , its not a problem, those trucks never get to half the gauge, winter especially. mine never got to 1/2 in 106* going 75mph up hill and down for 4 hours.
abs, check you wires for abs sensors, thats one, 2nd if you can pull the abs sensors out and check if they dont have chunks of metal on them, that will cause the light to show up. the metal gets magnetized and gets stuck to the sensors
change the air filter, fuel filter, and put some fuel aditives.
make sure if its that cold put syntetic 5w40 for better starts .
good luck and let us know if you need more answers
