hello all ford guys and girls, i have a problem that is driving me nuts. I have a 2000 F350 4x4 7.3l crew cab. When i turn a corner i feel a "digging in feeling" like it is in 4 wheel drive but not as bad as if it was in 4 wheel drive. it is not on all turns just some, does it on both ways of turns. I have had it in the powertrain shop 4 times now and they cant find it, when they have it it will not do it for them, but as soon as i get it back it will do it for me. They put no new axel seals on both sides inner and outer, replaced both front u joints, put new fluid in the front pumpkin. when i got the truck the dealer had new ball joints on the lower side, now god knows why they did not do the upper when they had it all torn apart is on me. I have put new Warn lockouts on, replaced the inner and outer tie rods on both sides hopeing that would be the issue but no such luck. New calipers on all 4 sides, new control arm bushings on the link and the main bar. I feel a vibration in the wheel as i am turning and a slight vibration on the floor. I am to the point of selling this truck it ha sme so mad. any ideas will help and be a blessing b4 i sell this truck.
yes i belive i have tried that but will try agian to make sure. if they are locked in then what cna i do to have them unlocked. i put new warn hubs on. thanks for the reply BTW i like your gauge pic on the upper gauge instead on the piller. i have not seen them for ford just dodge or did you modify that one. i like that but would not want to lose the rear view mirror

If they're locked, and the hub is in the unlocked position, there's a problem with the hub. Unfortunately I have no experience with Warn's, so I can't help there. Probably a call to Warn would be in order if there's a problem with them.
The center gauge pod is actually the same pod for Ford and Dodge. I've put a pod in both brands. (Dodge is my buddies.) You don't have to lose the mirror at all. Mine doesn't get in the way of the mirror. I didn't even have to move the button. If the mirror is not in the pics, I probably just had not put it back on the button yet.
Have you had the rear diff fluid changed within the last <5000 miles? I only ask because if the tech put in straight 75/90 or 85/140 and you have a limited slip, your clutches in the rear carrier will have a tendency to stick together and not allow differential in wheel speed during turns.
It's just a thought. Maybe you are feeling the rear end bind up and then release when the torque bind overcomes the friction or the torque overcomes the tire's grip on the road surface.
no i have not changed the rear fluid yet i need to see if it is a LS or not i cant remember but i know the tech did not put in LS fluid in the front he said i do not have LS in the front. so i will have to look into that too. as to the tires and wheels. the tires are one size bigger all the way around the front i belive are 275 and the wheels are factory.
ok now i have noticed as i am driving straight and i push on the pedel i feel a vibration in the steering wheel and a vibration" shake" on the floor i feel in my boots not a bad one but i do feel it. i feel the same feeling as if i was turning the wheel just not the tires walking over one another. could it be in the drive shaft maybe the u joints there?? they are factory ones with the ford NON grease fittings.
Does it clunk at all? Try disconnecting your sway bar from one side and see if it goes away. I've found my sway bar does odd crap when the bushings were bad.
You may want to try rotating and balancing the tires. I have the same truck. When my ball-joints went, the front tires just started to cup. After I replaced the ball joints, I had a "rumbling" type vibration at low speeds, most noticable during corners. I replaced, shocks & tie-rod ends to no avail. It didn't go away until I put those tires on the rear. Made a night and day difference.
yes i have rotated and balanced the tires still no good. same effect. the tires are the BFG AT ones. i am ready to pull my hair out. i hate to go to ford to have them look at it due to there high price. maybe when i take it in for the recall i will have them look at it andtell me then go from there to see how hard it is to fix. i have checked the front bearings and they 'seem' did not see anything out of the shape there. If anyone knows of a shop that is not an arm and a leg in the 43105 area in ohio or columbus area thats an option too.
HI! I am experiencing the same problem of the wheels feeling like they're binding up in slower turns ... the problem comes and goes and I initially thought it was due to the FWD also ... would the explorer fall under the same fixes as the pwr stroke diesel?
When it comes to steering the same cure could be for any vehicle, changing the steering stabilizer is alot cheaper than working on the 4wd and that is what fixed my problem
