Well I bit the bullet and decided to install the DP-Tuner that's been sitting on my desk for the last 3 days. Man, what a pain! That PCM cover bolt on the firewall is a PITA to get to, and the PCM itself will not come out without removing the metal mount that it sits in (manual shift, so the clutch pedal gets in the way). I could not get that top bolt for the mounting bracket back in after installing the chip, and eventually lost it down behind all that parking brake pedal crap.
As a consequence, the back half of the PCM mount is flopping around more than I'd like - have to see if I can get a new bolt from somewhere pretty soon.
So, eventually got it all installed and guess what - the truck starts but the F5 controller unit has no display at all - nothing - so I can't even reap the rewards of all my hard work. Grrrrr!!
....and to top it all, Jody is at a trade show. At least the truck is running, presumably in stock mode. I just hope that I don't have to dismantle the whole darn thing again.
It took me 3 times myself to get it right. Beleive me after the 3rd time you get faster at it. I also installed mine in Feburary out in the driveway at 20 degrees. (crazy but had to have it ) So look at it this way, it's practice for when you need to remove it again. The only difference is I have a automatic. But once it is in good and secure youll love it. seems to me most people cant get the truck to start with chip in and the tunes wont work..your not even getting a light and the truck starts..makes me think its not connecting in the PCM..do it with that movie..see if it will work..

I think you're right - the chip is probably not connecting at all. Had enough for today, so will redo the whole thing in the morning. Thanks for the responses.

good nights rest will make it go better...good things come to those who wait..

Not trying to being picky or anything, but make sure you clean both sides of the board where the chip mounts, use lots of light angling it to the light to see the residual silicone, if there are globs of it scrape it will your finger nail, then use the scotch brite pad.
I have the six speed also and I know what you are talking about. I can only recomend a good flashlight and some patience. Even with the six speed, you so not have to undo any more bolts than the two that go into the fire wall. After you get those two out, it is just a matter of manuevering the bracket under the E-brake cabe that is in that area.
Some possibilities why youre chip isnt powering on.
1) your Tuner Cable pulled out from chip during installation. (I wish there was a locking tab on this one.)
2) your Tuner Cable pulled out from DP switcher.
3) your PCM contacts not clean.
4) wire harness not seated properly to provide power to the PCM. Will the truck start?
Remember to use a good flashlight when pulling/ refitting the PCM under the dash, You can see how to wiggle in and out, instead of taking those metal brackets off like last time. The only obstacle should be an Ebrake cable that the tab goes under.
I will, but everything I am hearing points to a bad connection between the chip and the PCM board. Will clean the pins (again) and re-install tomorrow.
Badger, make sure the keys are out of the ignition, in your pocket on the your work bench etc. I know it's the obvious. But It happend to me. Yah get excited about the install and forget. I burned my Tuner and my computer both,$$$$. Just a reminder. Country.

You will be mad that you waited 'til tommorow when you finally get it working.
i had a pic that showed the proper amount of cleaning you need to do on your pins and basically you need to scratch off all the silver metal and rub down to where all the pins on the board show brass, every single pin and both sides, it takes a while to do, if your finger tips don't go numb you are not done yet, and don't press too hard, you could crack the board.

Thats not true. It specifically says that if you do that, the chip won't seat and make contact.
