i am building a 289 engine for my 66 mustang, and was wanting to build a test stand to test run it on before installing it in the car. i decided against it because i didnt have time to fab something up. now a buddy of mine says he has a older ford truck frame. this truck previously had a 351m and im thinking it was a 77 or so year truck. my question is can i set my 289 down in its motor mounts instead of builidng a test stand or are the mounts different? if it would bolt up, it would save me a ton of fabrication. thanks for any help

 

They do share the same engine perches but you will have to get the 302 truck engine mounts for it to fit as the 351M/400 ones are different.

so the engine mounts that came off my car will bolt up to the truck frame? i wont have to find any additional mounts? that would be fantastic. now all i need to do is fab something up to hold a radiator and a few other things

 

I said you need the correct engine rubber mounts like this:

 

Not to the frame, no.

If the truck frame had a 351M or 400 engine, the engine stands are the same as a 302. You will need rubber mounts to fit to those stands to hold your 289 engine. A 302 engine is the same family as a 289.
