285/70/R17 on My 2000 F150 Lariat

<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">I have a stock 2000 F150 and am planning on putting 285/70/R17 tires on my truck that came with 265/70/R17 tires. I am not putting a lift on the front end and will probably only make minor modifications to my fenders (ie. sawsaw 1/2" off the plastic pieces underneath.

Has anybody put 285s on a stock F150?

Yes and they will not rub anywhere, assuming this is a 4wd. Just be ready for the sway bar end links to snap in half at some point. I lost 3 of them while I had those size tires on and never any with any other size. My brakes also wore out a lot faster with them on. They look great but are a bit hard on the front end.

Normal driving. It is pretty common to snap them with bigger tires. NAPA sells a much better end link than Ford makes and it only costs about $30 for the pair. I should note the sway bar end links snap not the sway bar itself.

Yup...285's fit with no problem. I've had 34's on my stock truck with no rubbing either.

The sway-bar links...after one of mine broke, I just took it off. There's no need for it. The truck doesn't "roll" more without it than it did with it...never changed the handling at all. Plus, you'll get a little better flex while offroad, and a smoother ride over the rough stuff.

I've never tried running my '99 without a sway bar, but my '92 F-150 4x4 didn't even come with a sway bar from the factory. Rode just fine and took the turns just as well as my '99.
