I currently own a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3l. It has benn a great truck for me, never had any issues. I'm looking to upgrade now that I am looking at a small toy hauler. Originally I was looking at 05 and 06 6.0 PSD's but am a bit hesitant due to their issues. I found a 2005 F250 V10 CC SB Lariat with every avialable option. It has a Donhoe Racing 4.5" lift with 35" tires.
I'm looking for some advice as far as what to look for when I do take a look at it again. I drove it and it seemed very smooth and responsive. Any problem areas to note? Also, overall reliabilty of these trucks? Any input would be appreciated.
I forgot to mention...it has 27,xxx on it and he is asking $25,000 obo. Does this sound reasonable?

I agree w/ dkf, the obo should be worked for all it's worth, but 25k doesn't seem like a bad deal, especially if it's loaded. I paid 23k almost 2 years ago now for my 04, so I think it's a decent deal.
And it's a 3V, Torqueshift which is very desireable as a tow rig. The only thing I'd check is the maintenance records and installation records of the lift install. If he did it himself, just make sure it's done right. DR is one of the most desireable lift kits too, so your ahead of the game.
If you can the the VIN and post it someone should be able to run an Oasis report for you. The V-10 is a great motor. See if you can get the service records to see how well the maintenence is kept up with too. Good luck and keep us posted.
Thanks for the responses. I have posted the VIN in the 6.0 Forum Oasis thread. I also ran a carfax that checked out clean. So anything else to look at besides the obvious on these?
If you buy this truck I would make sure the tires and lift are up to the task of towing a toy hauler. I'm not well versed in lift kits as to whether or not they affect towing. However, less than E range tires should not be used for any substantial towing.
i can say that almost every v-10 owner is satisfied with his/her truck. regardless of the engine you will still be happy to just have a superduty. great trucks
I think they got you are in the ozone layer with that $25,000 price for an '05 V-10 CC Lariatt.
I've been trying to work a trade for a new '08 F-350 XL, 4X4 with V-10, 6 spd, tow pkg, snow plow pkg, and manual everything else and the dealer will only allow me $14,000 for my '05 F-350 4X4, V-10 reg cab everything identical to the new one I wish to order. I only have 25,000 one owner farmer friendly local miles on my '05 too.
I'd say based on my experiences here with trade in values, you should buy that Lariat for somewhere in the mid to high teens max.

The $25k asked for the Lariet is not off base however like mentioned earlier you want to buy it as cheap as possible. Back in 02' my dad traded in his 99' XLT CC 4X4 with 52k and got $22k for it on trade in.
If your XL had an auto it would be more desireable to the work truck community, but your getting low balled at $14k for your truck. The dealer will try to take as much advantage of you as possible. I think you should be able to get another $2k on your truck for trade especially in the farm belt. I would find another dealer. The dealer will probably turn around and try to sell your truck for $18k. I've seen 05'-06' 4cyl 2wd Reg cab XL rangers in my area with over 40k for $13k.
If you post the vin and ask really nice, one of the Ford Tech guys here will run an OAISIS reports for you - that will show everything that 'Ford' has done to that truck. Take that and run a Carfax (or similar report) and that shoudl give you a good idea if the history fo the truck.
As far as the truck itself - like everyone here has said, there have been few issues with the V10.
I would try to take him down on the price... with gas hitting $3 gal, you have a little leverage, the market is not real high for these trucks rightnow, but people are not 'giving them away' either. Pull comps from local listings and look it up on NADA and KBB.

Yeah, but the dealer's gonna put a 20k sticker on your 14k trade in. Plus your talking about a stripped down model. This is a Lariat. And your regular cab is not nearly as desireable as a crew cab.
Not trying to flame here, I just think it's comparing apples to oranges.
Well, just got the OASIS back and it is clean minus an ABS sensor, external temp sensor, and a reflash of the computer for the larger tires. I think I'm going to throw a 23,000 offer at him today and see what happens.
