iPod and usb device solution..

This product looks very promising. You can add iPod and/or a usb drive and control it thought the stock stereo. Put a nice 8gb memory stick on there!

Yeah, the USB is really what I would use it for. I wonder if you could hook a portable hard drive up to it. Use a 110 converter for it's power. 500gb of music would sure be nice.

Yeah, problem with too much is it would be a pain to navigate via the OEM head unit display. I think all my music takes up about 80-110gb.

The usb port would be nice for those small usb flash drives though.

SYNC would solve this

SYNC would be a factory solution to this problem and is already available in other Ford lines. Anybody heard when this might be available in the EXPY?
Hello Ford..Bueller.. Bueller.. Are you there?

I found out you cannot retro SYNC to the 2007 or 2008s. The only thing we can add back is the bluetooth feature. BUT you must have the nav system.

That doesn't make sense. Why can we not retro add the SYNC system? Did they change all of the wire harnesses? I assumed it was a head unit swap along with at least one new harness for the USB and Bluetooth. It seems cost ineffective to change everything, but then again this is Ford.

Does anyone know for sure what SYNC involves?

Called the company here is the response from:

"info@discountcarstereo.com"
According to peripherals the PXAMG is compatible with Navigation
radios with SAT button (accessed via the Navigation menu).
Will also retain SAT radio and/or RSE (if so equipped).

Hope this helps.

And from the manufacturer:

As long as the radio has an "aux" button it will work.

(my reply) have you tested it on a navagation touch screen head unit? it has a line in button that will access a stereo jack for ipods.
(From him) Yes we have. The only thing the PXAMH-HDRT is not compatible with is Ford vehicles equipped with a “Sync” system.

I am having for replace my nav unit under warranty So i'll post with the impression of the "Radio Guy" in the next few weeks.

Peripherial Electronics

you guys are not going to believe this,
The corporate headquarters of AAMP (peripherial electronics) is located 5 minutes from my house. I am going to contact them tomorrow to get some verbal reassurance on this subject. Upon looking at the user manual it looks as if it will work on the navagation radio. I ma concrened about the "CAM_BUS" requirement as well as an LCD cable that is not available yet.
Here is the company press release:
